I'm surprised people aren't mentioning this more. Usenet may be dead for discussion, but it certainly isn't a dead technology. edit: I guess they are. Took a second to search around the comments.

I tried this for a few years in a work environment. Wacom tablet with a OpenSuse box from which I did a whole lot of work in the terminal and via RDP. It was really nice, however the pen was a bust for me. It ended up being a really large m

Nice UHK. I've had one for years and don't use a mouse anymore either (on my bench-top computers). I have it hooked into a kvm switch controlling a handful of *nix machines. I still use a mouse on my windows gaming PC for reasons.

Why does anyone care if it isn't killing bystanders? Self driving is the same as other vehicle performance enhancing features in one major respect. More risk, more reward. If you purchase and use the feature, you should be aware that v

I guess I haven't seen many people doing 'useful things' with home automation tools despite how they've proliferated. It all seems like change for the sake of itself, rather than for genuine benefit (aggregate time savin

I disagree. Replace 'smart home' with 'automated home' and then compare to the mature 'automated industry'. You can have a small basket of protocols, hardware vendors and strategies which all do roughly the sam

Reading the comments, I see so many frustrated people. The cannonball teams aren't weaving traffic at 160. They are using scanners, binoculars and multiple pairs of eyes to map out moves before taking them, attempting to get through st

You haven't missed too much. The cosmic ray bit-flip guys have a point, but that is very hard to shield against and probably won't kill your servers. See this paper for a deeper dive. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/

Why have I never heard of any of these? I'd figure I'd see at least a couple of brick and mortar institutions. Am I missing something major here?

One of my mom's credentials is a degree in early childhood development. She and her peers from that life were pretty set (since the mid-70's) that putting children younger than 12 or so in front of 'screen media' had neg

It isn't just standard ad blockers being used to access Zippyshare. A whole lot of the content is .part files or similar. People share links and run them through specialized downloaders, wget etc. in order to grab all the part files fr

As someone who primarily works with computers in industrial machinery, this doesn't seem all that fanciful. What breaks the metaphor for me however is the 'computers have no practical use in society' line. Medicine, modern pr

I would recommend listening to this song. It is a ballad-ization? of a science fiction short story built around the rogue wave concept. Take it however you want, but the stated goal is still valid and we have the technology. https:/&#

Also, traditional landline phones (no hands free short range radio etc) draw power from the telecom central office. They aren't on your standard grid so you are effectively paying for that electricity on your phone bill.
