Also Spanish: the -ito and -isimo suffixes magnify the intensity or size of an adjective or noun, respectively. e.g. hermana is sister, hermanita is little sister.

My guess is that it's to prevent compilation of code which is unused. If code which isn't actually called anywhere is amalgamated and compiled, compilation time could actually increase instead of decrease. Seems easily avoidable t

My guess is that it makes more sense when interactive query latency (hundreds of ms) is of the utmost concern.

As a layperson, I've no opinion on this – just sharing the article because it seemed amenable to your idea that life emerged non-acutely as a natural consequence of physical laws.

My suspicion is that the ease of porting an existing JS codebase to Typescript is an order of magnitude easier than rewriting it in Scala, even if the eventual benefit is higher.

This appears to be mostly about privacy concerns and on-device performance. Google hardly needs the computational power of even millions of phones versus the behemoths that are their data centers. (and the phones are only part-time, at that

Well, part of Uber's strategy was to subsidize rides with VC funding until they could have fleets of self-driving cars to provide rides at truly low costs (and thus efficient unit economics). We'll see how well that plays out in l

You are, of course, absolutely correct: compile-time awareness of semantics vs just syntax is an important difference. I guess the point I was getting at – though improperly phrased – was that if current Go tooling is similar to templates,

Question for jordwalke or any Facebookers around: how's Reason's adoption inside of Facebook relative to OCaml? The hypothesis around the syntax seems to be that it's more approachable for Javascript programmers – are you not

Not using it, but jumping in to share an anecdote – I saw the Reason announcement months and months ago and decided to use it as a jumping-off point into the OCaml ecosystem. It took about a week of writing Reason before I realized I was sp

As someone who routinely has 5 or 6 files open in various configurations of Emacs windows, 80 char max is a huge convenience. Out of interest, what's changed since it became a norm which would make it worth reexamining?

Postgres supports async notifications, so you could just write a little service which gets a message when a record changes, and put the Stripe logic there. https://postgrest.com/en/v0.4/intro.html#external-notifica

It struck me the other day that when using Go codegen tools which generate packages based on a template, e.g. [0], the Go developer is doing manually what the OCaml compiler will do with functors at compile-time. The concepts are fundamenta
