I have Nextcloud running on a Raspberry PI along with a dozen other services on yunohost.org. Nextcloud automatically backs up my family's contacts, calendars, notes, tasks, photos, files, passwords, bookmarks, phone locations and more

You never know when Huawei or China will start doing something similar. You could do better and not have your data sitting with any corporate or government entity. I love my private Nextcloud running on a Raspberry PI. It syncs all contacts

It is funny how some consider the internet synonymous with Google and the other big players. You don't need to use Google and the others at all these days. So many alternatives abound. The problem seems to be awareness of them. Ask me

The best and most effective ads are the ones you don't see or notice as ads. They are more subtle and woven into content. Adblockers can't block them, and people walk away thinking they consumed some useful information.

Google pays Apple about $15B a year to be integrated into their products. Since Google is primarily advertising, why isn't that considered advertising revenue for Apple?

Almost any corporation can look like a saint by comparing themself to Facebook. Apple and Microsoft are playing the long game. They both collect a ton of data about everybody who uses their products and properties. They are definitely expan

Intelligence agencies would be negligent if they weren't putting their people in key positions at large tech companies. I can guarantee that nobody affiliated with any ABC agencies has any influence on my Mastodon server.

That depends on what you are doing and your position. IT must expect senior hackers will try to find ways to improve their setup. I wish more companies would recognize that it is not wise to have their workers surveilled by external compani

I do use a Linux PC for all personal stuff. I still want to make my work life a bit more private since MS seems to have made a business of knowing everything they can about workers.

I love it, but my work issued PC won't let me run any of the .bat files generated or install other FOSS apps such as freetubeapp.io. I wish I knew a way around Windows Defender Smartscreen managed by my company.

I think Mastodon or the other Fediverse projects do provide all we need, but the problems with getting there are awareness, intransigence, and excitement which the advertising networks provide. Most people are unaware of this free alternati

Great job! HW preconfigured for less technical users is a great need. The auto backup and tunneling solution fill the gaps still existing in other solutions. I don't know how you managed to wrangle the RPI supply. I will recommend this
