It does hide your home IP address if you are on your home WIFI. That works for web traffic and sites you visit if you don't leave other fingerprints. Of course that is only one of the location indicators.

It would be hilarious and sad if some spooks focused on me or my wife and wasted hours on traffic analysis just to figure out we are average law abiding people of zero interest.

Yes if you are dependent on Google or Google integrated apps, simply deactivating it on a standard OS may not be a fit option for you. Graphene has built shims to make most apps work, but you might have a problem with another OS. I deleted

Yes that was my caveat about the proprietary baseband modem that we cannot totally control. If I was in a different threat model category, I would use a phone with physical switch to the baseband. Those devices like Pinephone and Librem tha

I simply don't like people following me around wherever I go and keeping a record of it. I am pretty boring in that way and most others. Rotating SIM cards and devices does not create privacy, but it does create confusion on network ma

The point is to keep my SIM and phone anonymous. As explained in the article, if they can see where your phone sleeps at night, they can figure out who is associated to the SIM card and the IMSI sent.

This is what I have done for years: Cellular is always off anywhere near my house. I only turn on cellular when needed. I use Graphene which allows WIFI to be used without cellular for my VOIP calls on voip.ms or jmp.chat. I have been using

You are talking about targeted surveillance rather than mass surveillance. That is not the purpose of this guide and similar others. There are advanced guides for people in that threat model.

Here is where it kind of comes full circle on mass surveillance. If you do not have those data points, you cannot filter on them. Even if someone was once sloppy on real ID social media platforms, old data is less useful.

Within a few minutes I can deactivate Google Play Services on an Android phone using ADB. The universal android debloater available on Github makes it easier. The better solution is a custom OS forked from Android, but what is possible depe

The logic that anybody we can't see should be a suspect would then target our grandmas with landline phones who buy their groceries with cash or live in nursing homes. It would be a colossal waste of resources and detract focus. The me

We should push for laws and resist new acts that curtail our rights of privacy and free expression, but that is not a solution. We are generally on our own in making our choices of technology to use. If you go on using proprietary services

This site and many guides like it are intended to help people avoid mass surveillance rather than targeted surveillance. Confounding the two threat models seems intended to confuse and exasperate people.
