I think the parent comment is saying it is fast in software on a modern CPU, but making tha into an ASIC would either be a) slow or b) expensive due to the 32-bit additions. IIRC (I can't find it right now), when NIST had the contest f

The phone today software wise is vastly different than five months ago. It runs faster, cooler, and is compatible with a lot more things. I think they are well on their way of making this a daily driver by mass production.

I literally have made calls and received calls with a librem 5. I have no idea why this person could not. It wasn't anything special either. My only thought is if the reviewer had very out of date software and didn't bother to upg

shrug I like the look and feel of it. If you looked, I have had a quartz watch that was ~10% of this price. I prefer the Omega. I also know that it isn't as accurate. It doesn't bother me.

I took it to an authorized repair shop, they said the cost of repair was more than the watch. I'm guessing they would have taken it into account?

For a survey of a few watches I have owned: - $50-60 Fossil: Would break in under a year. - $500 Automatic Tissot: after a couple of years, it couldn't keep time (it added minutes in a period of a week). - $400 Quartz Citizen: somethin

If I remember when I did it for the Novena, you had to include that specific dtb file for the install. That does make it a pain, as you are correct, the installation image is board/chip specific

The separate device tree (#3) is not as big an issue as the first ones. If you are making a Linux kernel for an ARM device, you will have to make a device tree, and it should not change once written.

Have you looked into Nextcloud? If you primarily do it at home, the speeds of Nextxloud are typically limited by the network bandwidth, and the storage is limited by what server you have. I use it and manage 5 TB of data on it without probl

You have to keep in mind that when the PS2 was released, the DVD was also just released. I remember a stand alone DVD player by itself was ~$200 during the PS2 launch. So part of the argument of it being $299 is that it was a bargain to get

It's funny to think about, I first used Gnome 2 in 2006 and I remember having to install XFCE on my laptop. My laptop only had 256 MB of RAM, so GNOME at the time was too resource intensive. My Desktop had 2 GB of ram (so it couldn&#x

Power management is much better now. It stays much cooler than before. Right now its around 4-5 hours on screen time. Assuming they upgrade to the 3500 man battery, it could reasonably go all day.
