I don't lecture my kids. What I do is probably not acceptable by many, but hey, it works. When we go to hospitals, and those cancer patients are outside smoking, I point out "see, these are the smokers". Every opportunity whe

I think it starts with educating youth, with proper campaigns. Make it clear living as an addict is not something you want. The legal aspect is a very difficult discussion, and it's more based on opinions than facts. But at start we n

For my family it works out fine. And it already improved since I was young. People would smoke in cafees and parties. The non-smokers just had to live with all the crap. I'm happy my kids can go out now without the terrible smell in th

Just because something is done for hundreds of years doesn't mean we want to live in such society. I'm from Europe, so your theory to control certain communities sounds very much as a conspiracy theory to me.

I don't want to live in a society with drug addicts everywhere. If you do, maybe move to the bad parts of San Francisco.

I agree with you, and fixing the issues of drugs in society is very complex and difficult. That's why my statement was more of a: I don't use them and teach my kids not to use them. That is what is basically under my control.

That's why it's illegal, no? If it was up to me, smoking would also be phased out. Edit: What bothers me most on these HN discussions is how casual some commenters act of taking drugs. Like it's somehow great. Let's not

Those are difficult situations indeed. I asked because I was wondering how it goes. Thanks for the explanation.

Would be much safer if I teach my kids to stay away from smoking and drugs. Worked on me.

This amazon audio thing was the worst. Somehow they were able to sneak me into some free trial that turned into a paid subscription. I found out I was paying for it, and wanted to cancel. I was abroad and no access to a desktop: 1. Not poss

At 12, there are already big differences among them. Let's divide it into kids that like to learn vs kids that like to work with their hands. The 2nd group would learn how to work with metal, wood, .... Way more practical stuff, very l

As discussed in another thread already, it seems my own Belgian system differs very much from the US system. (I basically found out with this discussion :D) And to be honest, I have no idea how you can make the US system work, so I probably

At least in Belgium, at 12, kids get divided into different schools and systems. You can go into trades, which expects you to be ready at 18 to go work as a plumber, electrician, mechanic, secretary, cook, etc. Or you go towards higher educ

I'll tell you where it will go wrong. We had an economics teacher, that when you would bring up "the pope" topic, she could go on a 1+ hour rant about what is wrong with the whole catholic institution, etc. Of course us kids,

How does being an employee differ so much from being a student? You still get either good or bad grades for your work. You do assignments, get rules and processes you have to follow, play well with your fellow students/colleagues, etc.

I also noticed the material of an entire day can be learned or made in a few hours. So indeed I also realized it's mainly daycare with a bit of, or slow learning.

A good manager is at the service of the team, not the boss of the team. The main reason is that the expertise is at the bottom layer, not the top. Any good manager realizes this and know (s)he will have to trust the team.

Every job pays money, mostly around the same range (at least in your search range) Sure, if a company offers 2x pay, I'm there for the money. But otherwise, asking why they want to work specifically for you is a proper question. And I
