Yes? My math was very naive (no tax impacts positive or negative) but even if he phased in the change on day one (as opposed to the 3 years he is planning on), it would move his $2.2m profit (assuming that is before tax) to $1.6m. As the on

I think the fact that he's marketing this as a minimum wage thing to promote happiness will side-step most of the issues regarding job-loss fear. It's not like these people were all hired at an above-market rate because they were

Who said he was drawing $1m in 2004? That was 11 years ago. You're assuming that he's not the only shareholder. Did they grow to be a billion dollar business in 11 years? No. Has he created a successful business? I'm pretty s

You're assuming there are other investors/directors that aren't Dan Price. At their current size/growth over the past 10 years it seems like they're a lifestyle business (urgh, I hate that phrase) where the company

I don't understand. Their current profit this year will be $2.2m, after the CEO takes a $1m salary. The current average salary is $48k (x70 employees == $3.36m/yr). If the CEO drops his salary to $70k and ups everyone's salar

I would probably recommend setting everything up with an on-demand instance to begin with. You don't want your whole machine to be terminated as you're configuring things.

I have never noticed latency spikes like that from Amazon through transit… especially not for anything as trivial as 10Mbps which even a Micro instance is capable of sustaining.

http://aws.amazon.com/storagegateway/ is a little like what you require (if you're unfamiliar). It's not unlimited, but currently its 32TB/volume and you're charged for the storage you use, rather t

The http://relay.fm network has some podcasts I really enjoy. Particularly Analog(ue) which is a show specifically about "feelings" http://www.relay.fm/analogue/

The purple ones probably have changed a lot less over the last 50 years than the orange ones which would've had a lot of effort put into them to even compete with other orange carrots.

Before people make too many comments about the complexity and speed of these drives, it is important to realise that these drives are designed for append-mostly archival of data.

Looks interesting. May be a good starting point, although it's ultimately Pushpin that makes this model interesting to me.

Thanks for this, probably enough to get started. The plan was to create a Rack-compatible injection point that uses ZMQ instead of HTTP which could be used with any of the standard Ruby frameworks, rather than getting too bare-bones. I'

I notice that you can have Pushpin talk directly via ZMQ. I would love to see an example ZeroMQ-based Ruby "web server" that can be used a backend for Pushpin to avoid the HTTP stack on the application layer.

I'm curious as to how much Pushpin is part of the Fanout.io stack? Is Fanout.io just a (admittedly very affordable) hosted version of Pushpin?

SQS also doesn't guarantee FIFO. SNS guarantees delivery with back-off to HTTP/S endpoints (handling HTTP status codes properly) with very low latency in an asynchronous manner.

Given that I was surprised that SNS wasn't mentioned, I think I mean SNS, given they are both queuing services.

I'm surprised that SNS wasn't mentioned here, being an AWS queueing product.

Definitely Enterprise. Box has pretty fine-grained permission/sharing management, including when/how these shares expire (as an example).

With a market cap of $185B, sure. Does it probably need it, even for patents, market share or other reasons, probably not.

I personally find the act of handwriting something helps me recall it later. I barely even read-back my handwritten notes because they become irrelevant almost the moment I write them down.

Does this mean that the majority of the performance improvements over Puma actually come from the fact that they are using the considerably less battle-tested HTTP parser of PicoHTTPParser over the Mongrel one? Of course, this may be mitiga
