Can you define "bloated"? RAM consumption? Disk space? All are a cheap commodity these days. I've been using KDE for the past 8 years on and off, and uninterruptedly in the last two years. It's fast, powerful and rich.

Because entry level researchers shape the industry in the long term. I'm in academia, I worked at two universities and I have not seen a lab that uses non-NVIDIA hardware for research. Majority of graduates go to work in the industry.

It will be harder for a small academic lab to afford MI300, whereas everyone can purchase a few cards costing $1500. And even if I had money to buy MI300, I wouldn't - it is a too risky investment, because we have no idea how suitable

4090 (or 3090, 1080Ti and so on) is a high-end consumer GPU, but at the same time it is an entry level GPU for AI researchers. Don't forget that workstation cards (RTX 8000) let alone server-grade GPUs such as A100 are an order of magn

This is inference only. AMD should invest into the full AI stack starting from training. For this they need a product comparable to NVIDIA 4090, so that entry level researchers could use their hardware. Honestly, I don't know why AMD a

KDE is more powerful and configurable in every way, unlike of forcing the user into a particular paradigm like GNOME does. Also the software suite is stellar.

I'm so glad someone said it. I have long stopped working in GUI space, but I remember how horrible HTML/CSS is for app development and how great and flexible Qt was. Even more frustrating seeing where the industry is going now wit

Exactly the same has been happening on the Linux side of things with GNOME, which seemed to remove features with every release until there are just barebones left. They too decided to follow Apple blindly. For this reason I moved to KDE Pla

So what would you propose as a solution specifically for Oxford? Many streets such as Abingdon Rd are already narrow enough and I can't see how one could segregate a dedicated lane for cyclists there.

I started in a new job a year ago, and they got me the new Dell XPS 15. The experience has been dreadful so far, given that I've been a happy user of a Dell laptop for the past 5 years. Seems the quality consistently deteriorated.

I think switching the version to 4 is the most viable path. Make the last GILed python 3 an LTS release that interested parties can hold on to, eg. Ubuntu can keep python 3 as a default for a long time. One can always use conda to run multi
