I can do that (I think I can flag, but this was not always the case), and silently grow to hate the content on HN as flagging fails to catch the borderline cases (and possibly devalue each individual flag). Or I can break that rule to voice

I know it's tacky to meta-complain, but public interest articles are one of the reasons I stopped reading Reddit. I am looking for one particular kind of "signal" in that signal-to-noise ratio, and while this might be of interest to a popul

Evan Priestley (lead on Phabricator) doesn't actually work for Facebook anymore. And he's doing what he like. What's so dubious about that?

But it is clunky. It's a threat, but it's clunky. Roku - weird platform, but improving. BrightScript has its issues, but it does support HLS and VAST for ads. Boxee - buggy. SamsungTV - horrible platform, horrible (borderline abusive) appro

Altering the logging table scheme once it reaches several million rows? Not fun. I think flat files are much easier to scale.

I always take a second look at a LaTeX resume, if only because learning enough LaTeX to make a decent resume is a positive indicator - albeit merely a cosmetic one.

I use prgmr and they are fantastic for the geek who knows how to handle themselves. You also get a pretty decent /64 IPv6 allocation. Their hardware console was enough for me to install Arch Linux despite no official support for it. It's

I think you're turning this too corporate too soon. At this stage your most powerful evangelists will be hobbyists and spare-timers. When I write code, I like to write it open-source. Setting the obviously negative connotation aside, it i

Don't know about you, but while I knew video phones existed a long time back, almost all of my calls with my parents recently have been over Facetime, now that there's a simple, intuitive way for us to use it (I bought them an iPad). Auto

I suggest you audit CS classes at Berkeley or Stanford if at all possible. I'm also a very practical programmer, but being exposed to the ides and theory are important, if for no other reason than you are aware they exist and gain an expand

Seriously. I've been doing Java for years and it had been so long since I wrote public static void main etc. that I had to look it up. If you're writing mostly classes to be run straight-up from the command line, you're doing it wrong.
