Are you implying that cyber-bullying (for lack of a better name, I don't much like it either) is not a real problem? I think we have ample evidence that it does present a unique problem. That being said, I think Louis CK's more im

Aren't most people self-absorbed for a period of time, post-breakup? It may be a self-defense or healing mechanism, of sorts.

In my side-project, which is my first foray into Rails, I use a Resque background worker to do processing and it takes a significant amount of time. As I've heard more about Go, I've wondered how I could use it to speed up this ba

I can't comment on the server room scenario specifically, but I have personally experienced related symptoms (dizziness, mostly) when faced with sudden and extreme temperature changes. It typically coincides with me already being in a

It's a good question. For me, right now, the thing holding me back is the risk. With a wife, a mortgage, and a baby on the way, leaving a well-paying "safe" job is a somewhat scary prospect. It wouldn't be impossible, bu

100% agree. When I've worked side-by-side with devs originally from India, I have not noticed a difference in skill level from others. However, when the larger company I worked at outsourced development to India to cut cost, the code q

That's another perspective, you could really define it in many ways. I went with Christmas because it's the most holy and high-profile time for that religion. Lent doesn't really come close on the average Christian's rad

This is not really a fair comparison. It would be more like posting a picture during the Xmas holidays of doing something sinful/forbidden by Christianity with the baby Jesus. The context of this being during Ramadan is extremely impor

If the developer will never be customer-facing, who cares? But if there will be customer interaction, the important question is "Will our customers trust a software developer in shorts?".

18 days is more than 3.5 weeks of paid vacation. You also have to consider that the additional 14k will be taxed at a high marginal rate. You won't see 14k of that money. Less than 10k more likely (perhaps far less). So the question sh
