I almost did this. My post began with this: >>We have found that we are able to hire great writer >I see. And was only going downhill from there. Don't worry about it, we're all there.

HN doesn't have nearly the mass and concomitant crowd problems of Reddit, though. Not that it banning domains is ideal, but effective implementation is often more important.

I'm trying to balance my obeisance to Godwin's Law with my very strong criticism/fear of drones in US airspace. It's hard. I _really_ think the potential for UAV abuse is high. But it's a Law of the Internet, I guess. You win this round.

public art--that is, art intended for public consumption--isn't about money, it's about communicating a message.

It's really too late to be concerned about frightening effects of technology now that drones are allowed in US airspace.

I don't know about a majority. This poll, while hardly conclusive, suggests at least a sympathy for the "IP is imaginary!" crowd. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2555088

I was irritated at the re-use of "eye-popping" hype and the somewhat re-hashed statistics. But the series of never-ending "Re-imagining X" slides really dramatically demonstrate technology's impact on every part of our lives.

I prefer to think that it will just briefly cross the Chandrasekhar limit, spew hordes of information out of the system in a supernova brighter than the galaxy of the entire Internet, and then subside to a neutron core no one cares about. L

HN is the only place I know that downvotes for ignorance. Is my comment really more irritating than the other comments that are one-word compliments?

I have this vague memory that investors or startup advisors used to laugh at any startup idea along the lines of "We want to build a social network, but for florists!"--and that seems to have receded in the last year.

Successful sharing sites are highly democratized, which means in some sense catering to the lowest common denominator. Put another way, you need volume to gain any traction. Reddit has a lot of crap because it has a lot of volume: but as a

Which is somewhat tangential to the original point. Hard-ball tactics might _succeed_ because fb ads don't work.

Advertising is not nearly so effective as to warrant such a high value for a facebook profile. I'd put a week's pay that, in retrospect, we'll see Facebook's IPO as the beginning of the bubble's pop.

There is a naivete here that thinks geographic distance means the economies of disparate locales are disconnected. As the center of the startup scene, that few square miles in California will set the pace for the nation as a whole.
