I'm not 100% clear: Only three features were affected, and only sites with one or more of those features enabled leaked data into their pages. But was the leaked data similarly limited to only the sites with the features enabled? Or co

The problem you'll find is that job queues, message queues, etc are actually edge cases. You can implement them in a DB, sure, but to do so with acceptable performance will require deep knowledge of the storage engine, query planner, l

One notable difference with YC is that when they cut ties for ethical reasons, they do it privately, and dispose of their ownership. It's a particularly principled stance.

I suppose I should clarify a bit: I don't ignore finances until tax time. On any given day, I can tell you what's left in the bank, outstanding obligations, where money is going, and how much runway we have. Right now professional

Or perhaps there is active malware within the NHS network? Why is the immediate assumption that the amount of traffic is not actually an indicator something is wrong? When I've managed office networks and we've seen the captchas,

Right now we have some search and charting features that GitHub's web interface doesn't. We also hope to do a much better job with PRs (diff view especially). The big win for us right now (and hopefully other teams) is the ability

If we're not yet there, the goal is to get to the point Ship is worth at least $9/mo. Are there any features you'd like to see?

Ship 1.0 will continue to work for the foreseeable future, but you're correct: Ship 2.0 depends on GitHub.

To be honest, we wanted to play with it, and it was really easy to prototype the OAuth code (and keep our OAuth client secret out of the client) before we had the server deployed. Now, since it works great, there's been no need to repl

Tarsnap saved HN's bacon when a drive catastrophically failed shortly after I started working on it some years ago. (I no longer do.) Cannot recommend enough. Here's my sleep deprived post shortly after: https://news.yc

First, we're not stealing your password. Each of us in the past have used multiple GitHub accounts to partition work and personal life, or different consulting clients. I kept them in independent Chrome profiles. We originally had Ship

We can agree to disagree, but the tooling has definitely saved me enough time to be worth it. That and realistically, no matter the DB chosen, you either use DB specific features or leave performance (often substantial) on the table.

It's possible that Mail.app was a source of inspiration, and that we often found ourselves asking, "Oh, that's like <feature> in email. How do other apps do it?"

They're kind of supported right now - in that they do show in the app and you can interact with them. As the GitHub APIs for projects stabilize we'll look into more formal support.
