It's not clear why he'd like native code access. Is it that he doesn't think Firefox performance will be acceptable in XNA/Silverlight, or that he doesn't want to port any of the existing code to the CLR?

Why can't firefox just use the already licensed codec for H264 present on the majority of OSs if it's present? Then they'll have support for Therora and H264 on OS X and Windows, and Theora support on Linux. Costs them nothing and is a win

All the time. Almost every asynchronous call in .NET uses the process threadpool. Also, anything with a UI typically needs to use a least a few worker threads to remain response while doing real work.

No, not really. If WinMo 7 has full silverlight or wpf xaml support, the same code you run on the phone can run on the desktop as well (native or in the browser). Not so with Android. Think more like JavaFX, but on devices that'll actually

TFS is that bad. Offline access is non-existent. You can't even record a file addition without a connection to the server. I checked it out at Loopt, but for all it offered, I found SVN + Hudson to do everything we needed better.

Either Microsoft has raised the bar and attackers are going after easier exploits not in the base system, or Adobe has lowered the bar and gained sufficient penetration to be a better target. How do you tell which?

Yes, but if it's in your house, you at least know it happened and can try and fight it. If google hands over your data you may never know. I think in many cases they'd likely be barred from telling you even if they wanted to. Note: IANAL

Actually, since he was effectively doing SELECT * ... it still has to go pull the rows from the table after seeking the index. This likely isn't a huge problem though. To prevent going back to the table in this case, you'd either need the

While the write up was good, the author makes assumptions about what's happening seemingly without checking. He didn't post the actual query or the original and final query plans. Partitioning is a rather complex solution to his problem. S

We tested git and hg at Loopt: While both were faster than SVN (often much faster), they have huge disk footprints compared to an SVN working copy. In our case, the SVN working copy was ~1GB, and both the git and hg repositories were over

Much ado about what is most likely a misconfigured caching proxy. The only way to not constantly be scared and suprised by the Internet is to understand a little about how it works. Yawn.

For $60/mo you can get a Sprint MiFi, and have mobile broadband access anywhere there's coverage. I know, this doesn't work for everyone, but compared to a $57/mo EC2 instance, I think it's a win in many cases.

This poll will reveal more about what you use spreadsheets for than anything else. Excel is often used as a Mini-OS, running programs and interfacing with databases, the web, etc. I've never seen Numbers used that way.
