Had it happened in all cases, I'd have noticed it (I hope!) before pushing it to the live site. This was a case of rare error handling having unintended side effects. The profiles were only published in one very unlikely case.

The dark fiber probably isn't near you. If it is, you can usually lease it and trench to your house. Most people don't do this because even after the one time trench fee, leasing the line and connecting at an exchange are just exp

This seems to happen with CloudFlare pretty regularly. Has it resolved itself? I'll follow up with them.

The API returns JSON values per RFC 4627 and RFC 7159. null is a valid value. This allows clients to request only what they want: Entire item: https://hacker-news.firebaseio.com/v0/item/8422599.json Just one prope

I set things up so I could actually run their whole JS SDK and talk to it from C#.

If you use the Firebase iOS library they handle it all and use an efficient bidirectional streaming protocol.

I guess you don't use HN very often. We fixed that in nearly all cases a few months ago :)

Also, while they don't have a Windows Phone API I previously wrote a COM Windows Scripting API to use it via Chackra from an ASP.Net app. I think it's even easier now that JS is a supported app language.

Yes. While with HTTP pipelining you can request them all over a single TCP connection using a single SSL session, you will need to make an HTTP request for each item you want. If you're on a supported platform, the Firebase SDKs handle

I like open-ear headphones like the Sennheiser HD650 because I don't have to take them off to talk to people, and at reasonable volumes they don't leak enough sound to annoy anyone nearby.

Anyone who applied multiple times will get an email for each account with a valid email address. We should have checked for that both to prevent mixups and gaming the system. Next time.

You should operate under the assumption you could lose your computer at any point, for a variety of reasons. It's far more likely you'll drop it, spill something, lose it, or have it stolen. I keep everything important elsewhere.

What makes you think that because it's inside the CS department it's limited to engineering students? At Stanford any student can register for nearly any class.

I was Loopt's CTO and would use Microsoft's stack again, especially now. Not everything was perfect, but C#, F# and SQL Server are great, updates rarely broke anything, and security updates came regularly and promptly.
