This is a good review, and I'm enjoying it thus far; I have my degrees (a bachelor's and a master's) in philosophy, and this is a subject that interests me. Regardless of my (lack of) regard for Ayn Rand, I won't indulge in any trolling her

... and I am reminded of what a friend of mine who worked in a warehouse said to me a while ago: "This is the most idiotic job on the planet. Someday they'll have robots to do this."

Ah - blessed relief. Quoth Google: "Please be assured these images will only be displayed today, and the homepage will return to its regular white background tomorrow." See the response from one "Paul" (Google Employee) here: http://www.go

Doesn't work for me. I get the background no matter what. I've tried typing in every permutation. It's like they locked me out of removing the background. Ugh.

Richard Feynman is kind of a jerk. Edit: What I mean is: How condescending is it to write someone a letter saying that they don't understand people, and they should try falling in love?

This article is flatly wrong. Some early Romans may well have used so-called 'Roman numbers,' which retained some common use among the masses throughout the years; but any Roman of real education, particularly a Roman geometer or mathematic

Aside from everything else, I like the new site design. I hate to say it, but the old one on SourceForge was sort of hideous. And it was kind of sad, because I really love this project - it's vibrant, and it's creating some really great thi

My reaction to this is that it's not so much "unconscionable" as mind-numbingly stupid. Yeah, I agree that it's unfair to those of us who are looking for work (I was myself most recently) but from the perspective of those doing the hiring t

Oh, I agree that my own perspectives on "a few" aren't necessarily correct. And "grammar fanboy" was just self-deprecation, not an indication of expertise; everybody uses grammar, so everybody is as much an 'expert' in how it should and

This is interesting - and I always love the RSA hand-illustrated lectures. This is the first time I've seen a mistake in one, though: notice that at 0:59, Zimbardo clearly says that "hedonistic" people "seek NOVELTY," but the artist transcr

Yeah, I know - that's why I was sort of surprised that he seems to compare rpm with Portage. Portage isn't like rpm at all; if you're going to compare the Portage system with anything in Linux, it should be Aptitude, anyway, right?

This is interesting. The image it gives of Linux is more than a little outdated and/or out of touch, even for 2005; the author apparently hasn't touched Debian (!) which makes his criticisms of Linux installation and maintenance of packages
