Well, texting falls into the same broad category. The real cause is driver inattention. Banning right turn on red is a good way to ensure that distracted drivers endanger pedestrians less.

I notice all the time how dangerous the shared right turn/pedestrian GO green light is. Both as a driver and as a pedestrian. Would be interesting to see stats on these accidents too.

To be fair, VC types are not in the business of ethical philosophy. Crypto was not the first tech hype, won't be the last one. VC types will continue to thoughtlessly promote whatever makes them the most money.

The somewhat important difference here is that participation in crypto is voluntary (outside of e.g. extortion). The industry critically relies on reputation, media hype, regulations, etc. FTX collapse and this trial had and will continue h

Especially considering the revelations from the SBF trial about FTXs relationship with Tether. I remember someone saying that Tether has incredibly strong ties to the underworld (criminal and political), and that's what keep it afloat.

The "own" part is a fantasy. Fractional tokens of the world's grain resources, on-chain video hosting, a global decentralized currency exchange, etc... none of that really scaled. Having a secret key to a wallet is not more &

The time-stamping use case you describe is basically non-existent. Even light media like images are not stored on-chain 99.99% of the time. Time-stamping a URL to an audio track that is hosted on a server you own is not in itself a prove of

I think the on-chain products like games are also considered part of web3. Some game developers attempted to store game and user state on chain. As far as I know, these are mostly gambling-type games where the actual gameplay is almost non-

I think if you are in a corporate account and have correct access permissions to the account (i.e. URL namespace) it should not show 404. It's just super confusing.

Feature request: please require a direct unsubscribe link in emails. The new trend is that companies use 3rd party tracking services, which are blocked by my DNS settings. So I can't even unsubscribe from 60-80% of emails without disab

Beyond these very limited examples I just cannot see any appeal of HTMX... The real world large web apps have a ton of state that needs to be updated, UI elements that need to be swapped, multiple remote calls that need to be made on these

GP probably means business logic, not setting background color on a div. Coupling HTML with business logic inline reminds me of the good old DHTML. I am really glad the industry moved on from that mess.

You use Playwright for unit testing? That sounds like an incredibly slow and painful process vs @testing-library.

Interesting, I use Wise fairly often, didn't realize they have such nonexistent support. Will look into other options, my transfers are critical.

That's a great idea! I only recently started using shortcuts and haven't yet developed the habit of solving simple tasks with them. Edit: works very well. Created a shortcut that opens a specific file from Files, and added it to t

Internet radio is still a thing! I have recently re-discovered it and now use it daily as background music. If you buy smart speakers that can stream radio (e.g. Heos/Denon), you can use the free TuneIn internet radio service in their

Ah I was planning to look into this, glad to hear it's possible to self-generate a pass. My gym requires subscribers to use their app-generated QR code for entry. I have been using the same QR screenshot for the past 2 years to avoid

Not sure if you are aware - you can use Kagi in incognito too. Kagi can generate a link with a token that won't require you to sign in. Their official desktop and mobile extensions handle this case once you generate the access token. I

I use the free version and your example shows a vast improvement, indeed. 3.5 looks like a summary of Google results, while 4 actually gives a relevant answer. I don't have much insight into the differences between these versions, assu

The (reasonable—IMO) expectation here is that search engines should be smart enough to understand queries like that. Even Google used to be better at that, until they succumbed to other priorities.

Makes me happy to see that Kagi is so popular in the HN bubble. Changing people's mindset regarding the idea of having to pay for quality search is such a fundamental obstacle, wish them luck!
