How can you work with people who buy phones made by slaves? Or people who eat meat? > How do you try to weave a social fabric with that? How do you do it without it? The only solution given your rules is "if everyone just thought ex

> To expect some kind of neutral zone is to make the world dead of life. You call this hate filled divisive mutual nazi-calling "life"? Neutral zones disappearing is exactly what's causing society to tear itself apart.

Not sure what your question is. "Insist in what way": starts with things like the Go FAQ having a question called "Why does Go not have exceptions?". The answer does elaborate, so it's not like they're lying, e

The simplest example is that you're probably writing this function: func Foo() error { m.Lock() defer m.Unlock() return fooWithLockHeld() } But your less experienced colleague was told by Rob Pike himself

I think two big failures were: 1. Nil pointers (two types of them, even!). We knew better even then. 2. Insisting that the language doesn't have exceptions, when it does. User code must be exception safe, yet basically never use except

This seems super subjective, while being written as if it's not. I find this way WAY harder to read/scan, and very much prefer Google's standard: https://google.github.io/eng-practices/review/develop

The best thing about GNU Radio is that you can connect boxes without really understanding them, or the math behind them. There are many howtos and YouTube videos you can watch, and start picking up a little here and there. It doesn't h

Can't be more specific without doxing myself, I'm afraid. There are non language ways to make things safer, sure. Take C++, one can do things other than RAII to avoid resource leaks, and it'll be a good pattern. But RAII is r

I guess the field I was imagining was greener than that. But yes. In many cases you can just interface to the C libraries. But cross language coding has never been perfect, and yes, sometimes it's better to continue using the same lang
