Dude, JVM is not a platform but a runtime. Why is it relevant to run F# on JVM? The important thing is to run F# in any hardware/OS, that's my point. > As for regular objects, no casts are needed. Are you sure? See https:/

> JVM knows nothing about generics. What kind of casts are you talking about? Precisely! because the bytecode doesn't know about generics (it's syntactic sugar in higher levels, i.e. Java), then casts need to be performed at ru

TBH I think F# wins over OCaml just because of its mobile deployment story. It doesn't seem that OCaml's ecosystem has mature solutions for iOS&Android deployment.

I exclusively code F# with MonoDevelop in Linux, unless I want to code for mobile (iOS/Android) in which case I open my mac. No Windows.

I haven't really played much with Scala but I would say there are reasons why I will not and stick to F#: - JVM is less efficient for generics than the CIL (casts happening at runtime underneath). - I've read about horror stories

I guess you say this because you don't really do multi-threading that much or haven't had the urge about parallelising your work yet ;)

> If you program with the same mindset of F# in C# then the differences are not super quantifiable. I think they are. F# defaults to immutable stuff. Everytime you write anything in C# and forget the word "readonly", you'r

Nice! I wonder if you could remove the dependency on System.Drawing by using SkiaSharp?

I love F# and there's only one thing lacking in its ecosystem: not many opensource projects written in it. And I don't mean libraries, tools & frameworks, there are tons of those; I mean a real app. But I hope I can break the

Have you ever dealt with the Maybe(Haskell)/Option(F#) types? If not, then you don't understand what's wrong with NULL and how to easily avoid it without much work.

Even in the world view of free software, regardless of the license being used, no community management is expected from the person that gives away the software they write. Free software is about the rights of the users (not the whims of

I could have written the same last sentences as you, but using a GPL license. No difference. Licensing is not related to this. (PS: When you choose "GPL", if someone modifies your software, they don't "owe" you thos

I disagree. Software projects that claim to be free-software instead of opensource (plus use a "contagious" license such as GPL) don't owe you more community management than the ones with an MIT license.

Exactly. Plus address reuse doesn't really matter: if it ever becomes a security problem, they would rob satoshi's coins first.

Xamarin.Forms is cross platform (not only mobile, also desktop) while native look&feel. Don't use Electron.NET, that's a waste of CPU cycles.

Two quick questions for anyone that has already tested it: - Does it include a dark theme by default, or not yet? :-/ - Can you install flatpak with `apt-get` or do you need to install some apt sources first?

He not only mentioned syntax but design too. Clearly JavaScript's lack of int (for example, to mention a design decision of JS) is one of the reasons of its poor performance, not to mention its weak typing approach.
