You'd be surprised how hard it is to identify SHINE. In places like this, you'll probably find the fastest broadband available is actually ADSL2+ - which is highly susceptible to noise, and in some places in the UK the lines which

Hilariously my blog (kn100.me) also got 38 percent and the site provides screenshots of other sites with similar scores, which were all 404/500 error pages... I thought my blog looked nice :(

For files less than 1GB I tend to use Telegram. It obviously has the downside of uploading to server X and then downloading from server X, but usually if I am sending a file to one person, I'll likely be sending it to others too, and t

I stopped using Gmail because I decided email was too mission critical for me to trust Google with. I'm now with fastmail and appreciate the fact I can port my email elsewhere easily should I choose to do so. No regrets!

I have not thought about this too much but what if the expiry date resets when it changes hands and there is some tx fee to discourage passing money around unnecessarily?

That's terrifying.

As much as I love messing around with stuff at home, it is pretty jaw dropping how cheap a cloud hosted solution can be these days - I've got my personal site, a nextcloud instance with 75gb of s3 style storage, a Wireguard server, alo

Do what I did. eBay isopropyl alcohol and some vegetable glycerin. Should cost you less than 10GBP per litre and mix at a 70/30 ratio.

I bought a D7000v2 second hand recently to replace the piece of crap ISP router I had. Of course it's got a critical vuln and of course it can't really run openwrt

I don't think this is true - I don't recall using domain validation. I think it's more related to multi domain certs.

by kn100 7y ago
Yeah my domain was affected. Renewed, that would have sucked if I hadn't seen this! Also, I didn't get an email and I'm pretty sure my certs were generated with my email!

200W when idle?! That's ridiculous! I'd personally just trash it, unless the upfront cost of something more power efficient is too high.

This is a really cool project but frankly you can do it a lot cheaper. Find the cheapest box fan you can find, and find the cheapest HEPA filter you can, and strap the HEPA filter to the front. To improve air purification even futher, slap

I was aware of the irony - I just chose to provide help because some of us don't have an option to use anything other than desktop linux in this configuration and the gist is helpful to others. It's clearly not a just works soluti

W.r.t your hidpi/non-hidpi issue - a 'proper' solution is slowly making its way out of the woodwork. Wayland apparently will allow us to solve this problem, but in the meantime here's my solution if it'll help you.

I've seen a deployment of a large number of ec2 instances + other Amazon services handled with Puppet+Ansible, and I've also seen a somewhat smaller but still fairly sizeable deployment using a custom Kube cluster. The custom Kube

I recently started using Fastmail in place of Gmail and the difference in the frontend responsiveness is ridiculous. Well worth the 5 dollars a month in time saved. Gmail in Firefox is like navigating a drunk man home. Also, duckduckgo :)

There are good quality USB soundcards to be had these days - most with connectors for external mics. This allows you to control the a/d step completely.
