Fun fact: it was between "reddit" and "reditt" while I was a senior at UVA sitting in Alderman library. I asked my friend (and library buddy) Melissa for which one made more sense for the way "read it" oughta be misspelled. She picked reddi

That reminds me, on Demo Day (Aug '05) del.icio.us was the site we kept hearing over and over. Explaining how we were different from them was pretty straightforward [Del.icio.us is king of social bookmarking, a way to keep make your bookmar

One day I want Sir Tim Berners-Lee to hop into one of those threads and tell everyone to GTFO. But really, we're all standing on the shoulders of giants. It's cliche for a good reason (though the English teacher in my brain is yelling at me

Oh, it's indeed ironic. If it weren't for the misrepresentation, I'd have ignored it, but that kind of thing is particularly irksome - especially as I'm looking at the evidence in my inbox. In that instance, it was worth it to get the facts

Thanks! The way I see it, it's all sticks & stones. I got to learn that early as an overweight kid with a girly name and fondness for videogames. I just wish I could get the TC Comments to work for me (why aren't they using disqus?) so

I don't know for sure - I said that in the very first sentence of my post. I'm out of touch by my own admission. To me, the simplest explanation is: a company that's already raised a SeriesC with VCs impatient about getting that grand retur

My intention was quite the opposite from trash talking. As a commenter articulated, this feels more like something forced on him by acquisition hungry VCs than of his own design. Digg was in a way one of the best external things that could'

Exactly the reason why I felt OK publishing it. I'm still a redditor of course, but breadpig is my only ... uhh.. horse in this race.

Hmm... User-created diggs (like we have on reddit, but better articulated & designed - I say this as the closest thing reddit had to a designer, I'm no designer). I have no idea about headcount, so I won't speculate there, only to say

In another life, we'd have made usercreated reddits a better solution for the curse of popularity. People weren't making "friends" on digg for much else than spreading their content, so I suspect most of the networks in place aren't adding

Aye, most of the MFIs (microfinance institutes = banks to the poor, essentially) are for-profit. Some are non-profit, though, but they all charge interest rates for these loans - kiva lenders essentially are loaning them interest-free loans

I just finished a 3month kiva fellowship :) so I can assure you that your kiva loans do not generate interest for you. You will (in most cases, if the loan is repaid in full) at best get all of your loan back, which you can then reloan, don
