I would. By voting up a link or a comment you improve their visibility. This should bring more people to the discussion and that's good if you are passionate about the topic (no matter if you agree or not, or not quite sure).

I'm in the DC area. I can't really say I notice much startup vibe. Anyone interested in getting in touch?

And you don't even have to start up emacs at all. I keep mine running for months without exiting. You can use tramp mode for editing remote files if needed: /[user@]machine:localfile

What if you ssh to a server and use a text-based MUA? That does not exactly qualify as desktop, does it. It's a third category, which I personally prefer most of the time. For the record, I'm using gnus with IMAP and emacs within screen o

I've considered switching to gmail several times, but still prefer gnus, the main reason being full control.

gnus has been ok for me for two reasons: 1) fastmail.fm (the IMAP service I use has been very reliable for years now) 2) I don't actually start gnus, or emacs, or a linux terminal session on a daily basis; I just keep them running and use

Interesting, I use the same setup: gnus + fastmail.fm IMAP. IMAP of course lets me use a number of MUAs (such as Mail.app or fastmail's web access) but I primarily use gnus.

I'm very interested in Europe. Can people from such cities please comment about their city live, both in terms of lifestyle and hacker enviroment (education, peers, industry, finacials, etc.)?

It does seem like a problem: sharing the upside and the downside makes people less determined and focused to succeed. However who knows? The scale of the Internet business is such that things like open source are thriving; this idea migh

I've been using gnus/muse/bbdb/planner/remember and of course emacs itself for a while now (years). It is a helpful combination of tools and extremely flexible. Not perfect of course, unless you think that living entirely in emacs is perf

I know! It would be the Next Big Editor! He is going to port Emacs to JavaScript and have it work in a browser. Or rather it would be the browser. Whatever. But mark my words, you heard it here for a first time: the Next Big Editor is

Very interesting. After all these difficulties, what attracted you to biotech so much? I'm really curious. Is it primarily an intellectual/scientific curiosity or a desire to help people or the business aspect of it or...?

What is different in the case of biotech? Can you elaborate? Why do you think the model doesn't work? Do you need equipment? Or is your biotech startup purely based on software?
