Ultrasonics seems like a heavily underused technology based on the little I know about it. Piezo elements are cheap too and you can get a lot done with them

> Imagine a world where you just had drawing and input handling primitives on the web. You wouldn't invent the DOM and then something like React to wrangle it that's for damn sure. I think this is a really good thought experime

Sure all of that is easy, but control flow is a nightmare. How do you deal with cleaning up resources on failures? Idempotency? Traps? It’s a fucking mess

I like to think about framework choices as choosing which kind of problems you are okay with experiencing. This choice can be made from a product perspective much easier

I feel like making it compiled is a mistake. It will split the world in two

Easy to call it absurd without proposing an alternative. In the real world react solves a ton of problems and lets developers write apps.

Nope we don’t, but it solves a lot of the problems people frequently encounter while building web pages without too much of a downside. It’s a big trade off space and react sits in a very nice spot in that space.

Really thorough! Best opening explanation of react render behavior I’ve read to date. One of my goto interview questions for front end devs is “when does react render?”

I’ve been convinced static linking is the way to go for a number of years. The benefits of dynamic linking don’t make sense anymore imo

I've been learning PRY over the years. I definitely used to be in the DRY mindset where I'd try to factor out any abstraction I could. The cost of abstractions wasn't clear to me at first. Now I approach abstractions with fea

One important distinction I didn't get at first is that Nullable<T> is a struct (not a class). It is only for value types. Nullable reference types are implemented via attributes.

Yup, unfortunately for us there is a lot of C# code written without NRT. If all of your code utilizes NRT and you respect the warnings, you can nearly eliminate issues related to null. There are some paper cuts around generics, but generall

I generally agree with you. The only time I find classes make sense is when you need a stateful imperative handle. Those cases are rare.

I don’t really think that’s possible in an organization that size. People don’t really care about organizational outcomes any more but rather aim for personal outcomes.

I think it’s definitely a contributing factor. Folks conflate simplicity with familiarity. It also just feels good to apply knowledge you worked hard to gain.
