On a related note - I used to practise typing by downloading a Gutenberg public domain classic into Amphetype. Was a good way of reading slowly and keeping my attention. Also of appreciating books in a different way.

Not an exact analogy but it reminds me of getting new notebooks and pens for Christmas, and writing "This is my new pen" in the book because I couldn't think of anything else. Inevitably the book stayed blank apart from that

Stumbled across a great animation substack with stories about Richard Williams that I would never have found otherwise. Thanks! FWIW I love the aesthetic of the site - it reminds me of the weird early web.

A few times I tried eating only steamed white potatoes for a few days, it appealed to my all-or-nothing mentality (and desire to reduce mental overhead in choosing what to eat). Inspired by this https://potatohack.com It was ab

What a strange interjection from the secretary! Funny and poignant, with an undercurrent of exasperation?

I still harbor resentment about being brought up in a small village without decent public transport. I can't imagine the intergenerational conflict when people raised in a sulfuric hellscape learn that there is a green earth. What kin

I'd love to know who animated that intro. Strongly reminds me of the intro to Bananaman, or Cosgrove Hall's work on eg Jamie and the Magic Torch.

In the 80s it was common for parents to invoke the starving Ethiopians to make their kids eat up. A generation before that it was the starving Biafrans.

If I want a boiled egg, chances are I want it soft-boiled (runny yolk but cooked white) which is the custom here in the UK. (As children we are given a softboiled egg in an egg-cup along with rectangles of toast called "soldiers"

It's a shame - other countries' ads often strike me as quaint, hilariously awful, at best amusingly weird, and I'm willing to tolerate them to a point. But when an ad breaks in that's obviously targeted based on my locat

It's a Galaxy S10+ - pretty old now, does everything I need. Intentionally bought refurbished as a cheap phone that was nevertheless pretty fast and had a decent battery life. The Bixby key aside, everything else has been fine.
