Background support for non-Apple apps is best-effort at best, and explicitly discouraged in the docs. The rate of silent push notifications and other background mechanisms are intentionally not documented and you’re explicitly instructed yo

I don’t know the details but reading the article they got this right. It’s been my main gripe with Rust which imo totally botched it. Or rather, they botched the ergonomics. Rust still allows low level control just fine… (but so does a plai

But that illustrates the point. Most investors don’t want to put money towards something that may be put on indefinite hold depending on political winds. These projects are often much longer than presidential terms.

Ive been very pro nuclear my whole life, but a part of me is disheartened by the mega projects that commercial fission deployments have become (even if the reasons are bad) that’s a problem that nerfs traditional fission. If nuclear remains

This can backfire bigly for the EU. The whole union is sustained on shared values and interests. Sneaking in surveillance is extremely offputting for the sentiment towards EU in many circles. Every member state has plenty of skeptics who wa

You may be overthinking it. Verification of some sort isn’t the end of the world, it’s arguably an acceptable damage control stop-gap that has precedent on other platforms like special entitlements on iOS and kernel extensions on Windows. G

Yes, but see my last paragraph. Reading notifications doesn’t apply to the majority of apps. It’s not a binary choice. On iOS, you need special entitlements for certain high level privileges. Isn’t it already the same on Android?

No I don’t think it does. But I am using it in user space[1] successfully with no packet forging. I believe the outbound attempt (SYN) creates a mapping, and even if that conn is blocked on the other end, the inbound conn (SYN but in the ot

Maybe success rates are higher with UDP – I don’t know. But it certainly works to hole punch with TCP as well. If you’re lucky you can even run into a rare condition called ”TCP simultaneous open”, where both sides believe they are the dial

It sounds like you’re talking about the benefits of having both? The new iPhones have only eSIM which is currently a hurdle, especially for the ”tourist SIMs”. OTOH, I’m sure Telcos will shape up their support and iron out the major bugs ra

100% agree. Plus ”organic” is an important term that has real meaning when you try to grow a product. Diluting it with paid advertisement just makes it harder to communicate clearly. Plus we already have a word for it, paid sponsorship.
