I've not yet read the article, just the abstract. But the abstract is pretty precise, and being "measurable" is a very weak constraint. For (computationally) complex functions like a hash, my first guess is the "escape

I'm an academic (applied math) and want to respond to this: academic papers are the way they are for lots of reasons, many of which (not so good) have been mentioned on HN. There are a couple that I do not see very often however: (1)

As a native Mandarin speaker, I don't tend to think of the "ten" as a ten. If anything, for me it conjures up an image of the number of 0s. So, the "hundreds" part in "four hundreds" would just means fou

I generally agree with you, with the addition that when I write a "table of contents in a paragraph," I try to always help the reader figure out what they can and cannot (or should not) skip. Sometimes people just want a rough id

Just looking at the screenshots makes me tear up a little. I loved my SE/30 and everything I could do on it. Wish I'd kept it.

I bike with my mask on for that reason. As a bonus, it also helps with my allergies. (I do wear a helmet -- as much out of fear of getting hit by a bike on campus as by a car off.)

Clever idea! I have no knowledge about any of this whatsoever, but would venture to guess that in states where this kind of thing happens, licensing to become a distributor may be very difficult. For example, the total number of licenses m

Indeed. I see where everyone on HN is coming from. But if you're a physicist, and you've come across a lot of "deep learning applied to physics but the model has no physics in it" (and there's plenty of that), the

I don't disagree with your point, but do want to add that not publishing on "fundamental truths" isn't the same as not asking those questions. Not everyone's going to have something novel, plausible, and fundamenta

AFAIK HN itself runs on Arc ( http://arclanguage.org/ ), which is implemented in Racket (formerly in PLT). Does that count? Edit: in addition, I used PLT (Racket's predecessor) for my own scientific computing needs, e.g
