Agree with all except the package management part. I switched to Debian after 15 years using FreeBSD simply due to how much better apt is. I don't have much time so unattended-upgrades is a live saver for me. I do miss FreeBSD though,

Where might I find it and what's it called? I have had a look and can't find anything. Although it's possible Xiaomi doesn't include it in their version of Android.

My thoughts too. Bitwarden seem to do things differently to the password manager described in the article which perhaps reduces the attack surface.

It's fantastic. I use the Firefox extension on my laptops. On my Android I have the app. It is very convenient having access to the same password store across multiple devices. If you have iOS it's even better as it hooks into the

I wonder if the author has used bitwarden at all? I always access bitwarden through the browser toolbar which for me guarantees that I am dealing with the Bitwarden extension and not the website itself. It seems from the article other passw

Bitwarden doesn't seem to do this even in Android 10. The Bitwarden UX on iOS is fantastic though, it behaves excatly as you'd expect from a native solution. Any examples of good password managers on Android that uses the proper s

Here in New Zealand the payee name and the bank account number are not checked by banks for domestic electronic payments. I can only assume this is standard practice overseas as well.

You can! Many years ago I took a desktop machine (minus monitor, keyboard, etc as my friends already had spares of these at the destination) on not one but two flights (going there there and the going back back). Surprisingly the people che

My SO has an AMD gaming laptop that came with a 135W power supply. Surprised the heck out of me as I typically see Lenovo/Apple laptops with 45W or 65W power supplies. Doesn't seem to be an Intel-only thing.

Just out of interest, is she still using the same HDD? I find that the performance of older MacBooks are pretty awful under recent version of Mac OS if the storage hardware is the older non-SSD drives. My old $work MacBook with a HDD was th

Just realised I probably haven't seen DuckDuckGo's ads due to my adblocker. The downvotes for my original comment seems justified from what I read. Thanks for enlightening me.

Even more reason to switch to other search engines such as DuckDuckGo.

So why bother collecting the data if it can't be used? I can't see ad firms collecting data they won't use for tracking.

Until the day comes when an application isn't updated with a patched library and people get hacked. This is the reason why I'm not so keen on statically linked applications. I'd rather my applications focus on their concerns

I've used Debian as a daily driver on my laptop for several months now and I haven't observed issues with broken dependencies. I've observed that issue with other distros in the past (as well as the *BSDs) due to package mana

Yep definitely not on my Xiaomi Android 10 phone. I can do the steps in Google Maps but that doesn't trigger the Smart Lock. Also nothing in my settings for Smart Lock. Oh well.

Aha that explains why I can't find it on my Xiaomi. Was this an stock Android feature or something Xiaomi added in then took out?

Interesting I wonder how it deals with the case of e.g. someone giving their phone to another person (e.g. spouse) who then uses the passcode. I guess they could try and work out if it is a variation of the same person or if it is someone e

I'm sure passcode has always been a fallback option. I used to see it all the time when I had an iPhone with a Apple Pay compatible card some years ago.
