Some comments: Dental care is not part of "universal health care" in many first world countries, including the one I'm coming from, Switzerland. Countries with great public transport, such as Japan, should logically have lower car ownership

I actually built a service like this for internal use a couple of years ago. I worked at an agency, we were responsible for the web sites of companies of which many were listed at various exchanges. This included handling the publication of

I've been using Natty and am currently on Oneric. The problems are probably overstated. I've used a variety of systems and didn't run into problems with Unity (different laptops and pcs). Reminds me of Vista's launch somehow. I've also test

Same story here. I was always the "bright kid" in school (and I got beat up quite often because of this : ) My environment (aunts, grand mothers, parents, teachers, friends, other pupils), always made sure that I knew this in some form or a

I agree, I don't understand the hatred for Unity. I've used Linux since Slackware 3.0 or so... My girl friend, who is an Apple user, was pretty impressed by the user interface after I installed 11.10 on my Thinkpad.

I'm impressed by the cleanliness of the code base, very readable. From my experience, this is not the case with many C++ open source projects.

Stanislaw Lem is probably my most favorite sci-fi author. He's very popular in Europe, but not so much in the US it seems. His works are hilariously funny, philosophical and have a certain magic to them. When I saw the robot I was almost ce

You've just written about it. And so has this Sebastian, in fact, if anything, volume is certainly not the problem when it comes to his writing. I'm similar to you. As in I don't write blogs or do much formal "PR" or online networking with

Track record of being right is unmatched in the last several years? Do you care to provide proof for that? I'm not saying that you are wrong, but this is a pretty big claim to make.

I think the algorithm does too many "magic" things lately. I've noticed this when I had some search queries for "flask" (python micro web framework) and some programming related input and most of the returned results were about "flash".

Many things can be a tool. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tool_use_by_animals Now, how is a soft drink a tool? Using the glass bottle to smash someone's head in might constitute the use of a tool. The bottle could be seen as a tool, it

I don't agree, this is a gross over-simplification and the comparison with Coke and Pepsi doesn't work. Drinking a soft drink gives you an immediate, hard-wired response. Tasting something is, well, relying on your taste buds for one. How d

Thunderbolt doesn't "obviate" the need for slots. Do you have 10k plus invested in pro audio or video gear that requires pci-e? All those guys are going to switch to Windows...

I think the problem with such essays is that the authors extrapolate their own experience and think it can be used as a template for everyone. We are told how to get rich, become successful, date a beautiful women, write the best programs,

At the time, IE6's chief competitor was a bloated, slow, crashing version of Netscape. My first job after high school and before college was that of a web developer. If I recall correctly, we damned Netscape just as much for being so bad, a

I don't buy into this. I've been producing music for over 10 years now. The "snippet" and fire and forget approach doesn't work. I'm sitting on thousands of different loops, demos, half-finished songs, and so on. Over the course of of a ses

I think this quote is hogwash, because having two opposed ideas in one's mind is a core functionality of the human mind. Everybody does it. Take this vulgar example: Idea 1: "I really want to have sex with that waitress" - "She is so hot"
