Thank you for replying. And while there is no doubt a lot of PR in the article, PR != "made-up nonsense". I like HN because the standard of discussion > eg reddit. Simply throwing out what are essentially accusations of lies is

Sorry, but that wasn't his statement. It's quite clear that he states that what is presented as new technology is completely made up nonsense. He may be right, but he needs to show what in the article is completely made up non

Not so. He is the one who made the original statement. The onus of proof is on him to show what is "completely made up". It's a fairly extreme statement after all.

The video shows them using a "tailplane" on the main sail, presumably to adjust sail angle without needing sheets, etc. Is this used in normal sailing? It seems far simpler.

In JavaScript, you’ll often see i, j and subsequent letters as iteration variables. i is not descriptive, and j is somehow even less so. Using i & j etc for indices dates back to older versions of FORTRAN where the variable type depen

There's a project called JBang that aims to provide a much simpler DX when working with Java projects. For basic projects, the experience is almost Go-like. https://www.jbang.dev/

Good point. Alternative is to compile your Clj uberjar using GraalVM. Here's a project to document how to do that and which common libraries are compilable: https://github.com/clj-easy/graalvm-clojure

Babashka is Clojure running natively. It uses a simplified version of the Clojure runtime compiled to native code. No JVMs involved at runtime. https://babashka.org/

> The framework is so new Just a note: Svelte is 6 years old, only 2 years younger than Vue. Both are definitely "old" on JS-framework timescales.

Why should it be so hard to believe? A mainframe box is about the size of a rack of servers, and all the components are much more tightly integrated. Plus the utilisation on m/fs is much higher than on normal servers. I don't have

Mainframes are more energy efficient for a given level of performance than an equivalent farm of servers. Additionally, the redundancy, hot-swapping, and resource utilisation is generally better. A corporation might well calculate that, for

I suspect a lot of mainframe development today is Java EE centered, for which there is an abundance of stuff on the web. Indeed, and not just Java. zLinux runs a great many workloads on M/Fs these days, which looks a lot like a norma

Personally, I'm on the fence about using server side rendering (which PHP is pretty good at) versus just writing RESTful APIs, because browsers now have fetch API built in which makes consuming them easy (no need for jQuery or necessa

But you quickly come up against problems of text alignment, trying to show 2+ theoretical streams of text on one 2D page, and it's a pig to get the DX right. A specialist editor would help, but then you could ask, why not just use a st

Graphical representations tend to be better than 2D text when dealing with concurrent streams of execution. You can do it in plain text, but either it is difficult to follow or it becomes a mess of text alignments. IME.

Good work. But I can't help thinking this could or (should even) be under the auspices of crates.io. Provide a way to categorise crates and highlight commonly-used or trusted crates.

A container only knows about what's going on inside it though. If you want to hook those resources up with peers in a decoupled way, that requires an abstraction on top, preferably declarative, or else you faced with a substantial amou

How much would be solved if instead of "containers" we deployed static binaries (that were a couple hundred mb's larger apiece because they contained all their dependencies statically linked in... but who's counting).
