Seriously. I ran a little experiment back one high school summer when I had a helium tank laying around and was bored/curious to know how far your typical lost-to-the-sky "Walmart" helium balloon would travel. I launched about 50 balloons

It's not hard to flip her spin direction, just focus on the point of her toes and tell yourself that her toes are going from (left->right) or (right->left) and that'll change the way you interpret her spin.

There's a DOE study that shows extending DST saves energy and also has no statistically significant effect on fuel consumption... So this $480m "lost" productivity is potentially offset by energy savings across the US. I'm also less inclin

I despise websites that do this because I have to use IE7 at work. This is probably the second fastest way for me to banish your website from memory besides being spam. Everyone on here talks about making the sign-up process as easy as poss

Well I stand corrected on the figures then, but I certainly won't be using one. My fingers can't take the agony of typing on a keyboard designed for mice.

I'm a huge Nokia fan (N95 8gb here) but they keep building these "mobile computers" that few people buy -- their Nokia Communicator / N800 Tablet are two examples. They should stick to making great cellphones with awesome media capabilitie

This gets me pretty burnt out on 'programming stuff' 22 here -- I have a similar programming day-job and nothing works better than a good 1 hour of lifting/running to relax and clear your mind of the last 8-9 hours at work. Usually after

I agree, but so far I'm completely wrong =) http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=328227 Then again, I have until Oct. 2010 for that to play out (and I do have money behind my mouth on that one). 2009 is going to be the year for testing Go

Amazing video. I wish he had a second video to explain how exactly the government is trying to fix the problem. Maybe that could be represented as a giant firehose of money fueled by the giant firetruck of taxpayers, which in turn is used

For good friends, you've got to put the effort in and block out the time, otherwise you'll always make excuses and say "I'm busy". With women, (I'm 22) I don't really care at this point. If a confident girl comes along that fully understan

Driving a manual is just more fun, more engaging, and makes you focus more on driving. It's just better. =) I had to put up with a slushbox rental recently and finally understood how exactly people can fall asleep at the wheel.

I believe the scientific community is defined by complete commitment to the rational. Sure, there are people who claim to be scientists, but the scientific method is an exercise in pure rationality. You would do best to rephrase that stat

I can't tell if this is a joke or serious. Either way, what you're saying here is that someone who does a math problem the right way is a perfectionist. That's correct in one sense of the word, however, under this specific context where we
