For displays I imagine the reason is more reputation and experience - normally just about every apple product has a factory calibrated display, but that promise can be broken (intentionally or not) on the used market. It’s nice to have a m

You can rent one of the Atom Kimsufi boxes (N2800) to experience first hand a cpu with no speculative execution. The performance is dire, but at least it hasn’t gotten worse over the years - they are immune to just about everything

I’m probably missing out on a great tool, but such a low level application being produce of the hundred acre wood gives me the heebie jeebies. Not to mention it being closed source, regardless of origin!

Right but say the mouse is a constant 1000hz. To get the most recent sample on the screen as quickly as possible you either need the entire rendering pipeline to run ridiculously fast (the 2000 fps example), render just in time before vsyn

The frame could be generated several ms after the mouse movement occurred You can sort of solve it by ensuring the frame is generated (or at least the cursor added to it) just in time for vsync (ie as late as possible) but it won’t be as go

The cursor has to be rendered outside the normal graphics pipeline to feel responsive. To match it you would need to render the desktop at 2x or so the mouse polling rate (like 2000 fps or so for a good mouse)

Does it have hardware cursor support yet? My last experience was unusable for mouse-centric use, like treacle compared to Windows or X11. Windows has proven you can have all these nice things in a low latency environment

Disabling acceleration is the main thing for me Acceleration doesn’t really have a place on touchpads since they became ‘perfect’ with near-zero deadzone ~10 years ago. Especially on a nice big touchpad with equal click pressure like MacBoo

Beware the export function is flaky, and it’s already deleted everything by the time you get to it. Copying the export link href (a huge data:// url) from developer tools seems to be the best bet If running this again I’d rather u

Not enough people realise that the driving reason for ECC in home systems is this, not random once-in-a-blue-moon bit flips I’ll always buy ECC after multiple data loss events from ram suddenly going bad, worth every penny to have ECC ring
