I generate screenshots of every featured view, to be used as a backup in case Google update their imagery. Facebook should pickup the preview image if you use the permalink - first button in the 'share this view' panel.

There is a permalink - just below the 'Go' button there's a panel with some sharing options. The first one generates a permalink. I thought it might be difficult to find - will have to make it more clear, thanks.

I did add comments to the gallery. The first view in the gallery is always the previous day's view of the day, so tomorrow you'll see the tiger in there. Adding comments to the front page does makes sense, I just couldn't figure out a tidy

Thanks. The design took almost forever, as one of those programmers-who-suck-at-design types. Using Street View in this way doesn't seem to be on their fee list, so hopefully I will avoid that. Otherwise I will have a problem, serving about

The first view you see is fixed. It changes every day and is chosen from the views people submit (using the 'submit to gallery' button)

It's really neat. Would be good to see how many players are on.

It's akin to asking if someone with only basic musical knowledge can become a concert pianist in 6 months.

Fair point, although with email we're talking (for the majority of users) about huge companies which will almost certainly linger.

Doesn't seem wise to entirely trust your data to a single entity. Can we be sure dropbox will still exist in 5, 10 years time? What happens when your net connection fails? Local storage will forever be around, in some form.

I submitted a project of mine a while back, but it never gained traction, attracting fewer than 50 visits from HN. It was later picked up by TechCrunch, so objectively it couldn't have been that uninteresting. I second the suggestion for a

Mozilla should really get their own house in order (re: Firefox 4 huge memory leaks) before calling out add-ons on slow performance.

I think your site is neat. StumbleUpon users, in my experience, tend to show a high bounce rate (often not waiting long enough for a site to load), so they are not a good test case. If you're still looking to advertise, Adwords might be a b

I use ICDsoft for my site (MapCrunch), and can strongly recommend them. They are a shared host but I've not experienced any problems, even during traffic spikes (>25k visitors). Their support is also incredible and responds to queries w

There are some 'skeleton' frameworks available. These provide only the very essentials, like a database abstraction layer, user classes and some useful function wrappers. For PHP, Tyler Hall's 'Simple PHP framework' is a good example.

I got this idea from "Globe Genie" by Joe McMichael. I thought it could be improved upon so decided to rustle up my own version. Any suggestions for features / improvements would be appreciated!
