I am not sure you are ever going to get your benchmark with fully written apps, it's a lot of effort going both ways to build it out twice. With pure DOM, traversing the DOM isn't the issue, you can keep references around if you r

Just curious, why wouldn't you be done with the application if you had gone the vanilla route? What was it that sped up the development process?

Without speaking for Paul, my understanding is that he is just appending to a list which in theory should be a simple diff right? Anyway, we are trying to get the source open asap, we just have a rather bizarre need to got through a release

I spoke with Paul, he is using `key` and said he is following best practice as per the docs. That being said, we do want the code to be open, we just have a rather heavy OSS process that can take a while to get it out (it's a nut ache

Sure, but I suspect it's a question of whose role it is to do that. We (or at least Paul) could go back and see if we can submit issues or even fixes to the product. So someone could do it, just who cares enough I suppose.

Yep, that is pretty much the same with any site that supports either AppCache or ServiceWorker... Wondering if the "Hm" is a frustration or something else?

My understanding is that there is a up to date Browser. The browser app has always been built with a WebView and the latest WebView is pointing to almost the tip of the development tree of Chromium.

I think that is fine. You can disable notifications and push completely, and you can not accept the prompt if you don't want to go that far. We are trying to be careful and make this opt-in only and clear to the user about the value

I created this example because when I looked at the site, we had huge numbers of returning visitors, especially on the run up to the announcement of registration and the announcement of talks. I can certainly clarify this in the article.

I was looking at the site, and I don't see it. Digging a little deeper, you need to work more on SW. Right now it is hosted on https://www.tithess.gr/static/js/service-worker.ba9881a3a5f4... - this means th

With this project we are trying to be as respectful of the user as possible, so yes it is correct we won't keep re-prompting once installed or dismissed. There is still a lot we are working on fine-tuning the heuristics of this but I

Everyone has, Chrome has for a long time too, this is about Chrome being more proactive in letting the user know that they can install this experience.

Agree on debugger. However, did you follow the guidance and turn on the flag in Chrome? The flag lets you bypass the heuristics for when to show the prompt. If you don't have it enabled you have to visit the site twice in two weeks

Would love it to be, however we can't take a web app and package it up to the App list on iOS. Because of this there is not much we can do.

We are not letting developers to control when the prompt shows, other than to stop it from showing.

We certainly want to make sure that it leads to a great experience. With the browser controlling the heuristics of when then pop-up fires I think we can mitigate some of the risk.
