Oh cool, you found the discussion. Though I wasn't asking about the moderation exactly, I posted a similar question earlier: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2704833 I just reviewed the guidelines and my feeling as to why it was remove

oh, so i wasn't dreaming about the post. :) Assuming they were censored, I wonder what the reason was. Could it also be possible that the OP deleted it himself? Nevertheless, you're right. It was quite an odd move to remove the post.

I have two. The first is my own experience of being turned down for a part-time engineering role because the company didn't think it was safe or good for me to travel so much. From where i stayed at that time, it would have taken me roughly

While I'm not saying that a cheaper "lite" iPhone version is not possible, anyone else feels that this could be a fabricated rumour by Apple to rat out internal leaks? I once came across a (half-drunk) guy in a bar who apparently works for

If you use an Android phone, I would recommend using Firefox on both your phone and as your desktop browser. The latest FF builds (v4 and v5) have a sync feature which synchronizes all your history, bookmarks AND open pages in your browser.

Agree with showing visible comment scores, disagree with karma of a scorer adding more weight to comment scores. Ok first the agreement. When I was a non-member of HN, I use to skim through the comment thread and pick out good comments base

Someone correct me if i am wrong but i believe the money raised wasn't exactly "capital" per say. From what i've heard, investors for that round were basically buying stock from the founders. Think of it as a private stock market or more co

For a web-based company, I would add Amazon Web Services(AWS) at the top of the list. AWS is relatively expensive but if you are a startup with a limited amount of capital and need to scale quickly, it allows you to utilize a corporate grad

I wasn't referring to AirBnB specifically but the gist of my comment is I don't see how an AirBnB clone can justify $90m worth of capital. So maybe my usage of the term "pushing humanity forward" may be a lil bit grandiose but i certainly d

While i've nothing against Wimdu (or AirBnB), I am against putting insane amounts of money into something that not only is a "clone" of another business, it is also what I define as a business that does not exactly "push humanity forward".

While the use of app + smart cover is ingenious, what I am more excited about is that this opens to a possibility of a whole slew of "smart accessories" + apps that utilises the magnets on the iPad screen. Which got me thinking...what sort

I'll disagree with the notion that "Social networks are a winner-take-all game". I, and i'm sure many others do too, use different social networks for different group of friends. I.e. I use Facebook primarily to keep in contact with my fami

If you ask me, it's another amazing homerun for Sequoia Capital, Greylock Partners and not to mention Reid Hoffman! And assuming that the stock price goes up pass the $100 mark, this will put Reid Hoffman in the billionaire club.
