It's PyPI, PyPy is a different (unrelated) project.

Negotiate. It's always an option in my experience. (For example, I've negotiated the text of offer letter and IP/confidentiality agreements at most of my employers).

Can't Python notice that a list always has the same types and do something special?

Actually if you read the PyPy interpreter's source, all you'll see is a straightforward interpreter.

It's worth recognizing that the Google Open Source Programs office absolutely makes financial contributions to open source projects as well! (I've been a recipient of both the individual award, and projects I've worked on have been recipien

We include a builtin _continuation module, which is the foundation for greenlets and stackless. PyPy compiles just fine if you don't include that though.

Basically the way we did the JIT/greenlet integration involved restructuring how frames are represented in the JIT, which was very slightly slower. This was needed to support greenlets fully, and so on its own it might be worth it, however

I'm assuming this is a reference to some of the after-events of PyCon. We've been working publishing this for a few months now, it's totally unrelated.

I'm crying here. As a transplant from Chicago to SF, you'd be lucky to find a studio for that here (in a neighborhood as good as LP).

Author/speaker here: I don't have time to read all the comments now (thanks for all the interest though!). I just want to say I think when the video comes out it'll answer a lot of questions people are having.

I don't think you know much about Richard Stallman. He has no problem with people charging for software, indeed a right to commercial use is one of the fundamental software freedoms he enumerates.

In JSON that datetime won't deserialize to a datetime instance in your language in a conforming parser. Further JSON has no comments (this is a killer for a configuration format).

What you just wrote is exactly what I've been telling people about every new "Python" implementation for the last 3 years. Believe me, I understand this argument completely, that's why I made sure we had all the hard bits (monkey patching c

Topaz doesn't run rails yet (as far as I know, I didn't even dare to try!), so I doubt you'll find any benchmarks ;) There is one benchmark in the bench/ directory of the repository you can try though!

One of the major launch criterion was having "enough of Ruby that the performance won't change". What does that mean in practice? We have exceptions, we have bindings, and we have all manner of other obscure corner cases. Charles Nutter (JR
