Right, I'm asking for a way to see results in aggregate. Admittingly there's a problem of differing hardware (which I somehow overlooked).

It'd be nice if one of the JS benchmarks actually POST'd the results back to the server, with current browser, and had a UI that allowed comparing the results for different browsers on different tests.

If you're not saying he said that, why leave the comment in reply to him? Either you think he said that (or conveys that attitude), or your comment is blatantly off-topic.

Maybe this is just the shitty programmer in me, but I'm going to go right ahead using sizeof(char) (I knew it's hardcoded at 1 before this, and I'll know after this), it appeals to the foolishly consistent programmer in me.

Hrm not sure I agree, to my understsanding minimalism is all about making sure the main thing that draws your eyes is the content, here all of the stuff on the right is completely distracting from the content.

Well you can't use it as a function. You can however combine the parsing of the "print" keyword, and the "(" and ")" taking precedence around the string to form KEYWORD STRING that looks a hell of a lot like a function call though.

Idea for it that me and a friend had: often times when new users need help in IRC they paste some code, and make some changes, and repaste etc to show what their issue is. The idea is to write a plugin for editors that, at a click of a but

It's kind of cheating to not even include a lexer/parser.

IMO the authors understanding of the LSP is incorrect. The way he uses it ANY change would be invalid, for example adding a new method would change the property of "raises AttributeError when attempting to access XYZ" (in Python parlance).

Couldn't agree more, I hack on compilers a fair bit (one of my own, plus the JITs in PyPy and Unladen Swallow) and the Dragon Book was impossible for me to get anything out of.

Definitely true, I distinctly recall the first few submissions on 09 f9 in the evening, then the next day they started doing bans arround midday, and then finally the site came crashing down about 24 hours after it originally started.

Not really, during the aacs thing digg literally stopped to function under the weight of 09 f9 subissions. In comparison I've seen more pro-Ron Paul sentimennt on the front page at any given time than I have prop 19 stuff today.

Reminds me of Roller Coaster Tycoon, the customers say stuff like "This park is a really good value" and you bump your entrance fee until they stop saying it. Except in the real world people rarely tell you your your product is too cheap.

Uhh, in the context of an RDBMS a "relation" doesn't mean a "relationship" in the sense of a foreign key, it means a relational algebra relation, saying most applications will never need relations is like saying most applications don't use

That doesn't even require a broad definition. From Aho, Sethi, and Ullman: "a compiler is a program that reads a program written in one language - the source language - and translates it into an equivalent program in another language - the

Eh, as someone who hacks on compilers (both my own, and JITs in PyPy and Unladen Swallow) I've been reading the dragon book, but I don't really care for it, it's a little too academic IMO.
