Eh? I'm not disputing that at all, I'm a contributor to PyPy, probably the leading python JIT. None of that has anything to do with whether it's semantically possible to do a full type inference on a language like Python.

Good post, one small issue though, "type inference, which you can do in any language", is not really true. Once you get dynamic enough type inference becomes nearly impossible (Cannon, 2005: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&#

I got Visual Basic at 12ish, but didn't stick with it for much more than a few months. Then at 13-14 I picked up TI-BASIC for my calculator. And a 16 I started down the road of "real programming" with PHP.

Meh, perhaps I've grown crotchety, but I'm not jumping through hoops for you (theoretical employer), sorry. I can solve puzzles just fine, but I'd rather spend the holidays implementing new PostgreSQL driver.

I'll turn that on it's head. To me the interesting question is: do you need 100,000 or 1,000,000 lines to express the same ideas?

The template language is definitely faster than it, however currently the only database backend that PyPy has (that Django supports) is SQLite. At the moment SQLite is super slow on PyPy, because it's written using ctypes, we have an open

A friend directed me to this site the other day (I'm a college student), for some reason I got the impression it was an older site, not something that was exploding in popularity.

ENIAC: The Triumphs and Tragedies of the World's First Computer, by Scott McCartney presents a slightly different view of the court case. It says that though the courts were on shaky legal ground throwing the patents out (there were fundam

Not really, other than it's a port of MerbAdmin, which actually uses the Django stylesheets and Javascript (to the point where it violates the license, by failing to reproduce the text of the BSD license).

Sure, it's an anecdote, note a statistic. But people purchase favored brands in everything else, I hardly see a reason airlines should be different; particularly given a carrier like United makes most of their money on business class seats

I don't know. I do know that I could write essays several pages in length, do math up through algebra/geometry, know both American and European history, and have some knowledge of the sciences, which this totally ignores.

I'm not sure, I've passed up moderate savings ($70 on a $400 flight or so) to go on an airline I prefered. Delta has been a PITA every time I've flown with them, where Southwest has been my airline of choice for over a decade, it's an easy
