No matter how many times I read about these, I'm always left just slightly confused. Acquire/release is about the ordering of instructions within a thread of execution. So if I have a writer writing X, then writing Y, then I need

Awesome project. The PS1 version of this game is one of my favorites from growing up and also the reason my home server's hostname was "eelnats" for many years.

That's not an unreasonable question. I don't really have a good answer to it outside of I found building and installing the couple that I needed myself to be fine and don't mind invoking as `python3.11` or what have you, sinc

Does asdf automatically pull in its own copies of libraries for relevant functionality? For example I needed headers for readline in order to get that going on my compiled interpreters. If it avoids that then that could be a reason to use o

I had to install a couple of alternative python versions on my dev machine at work and found it was easiest for me to just build from source and `make altinstall` with a custom prefix set. From there I just always work in virtual environmen

I don't know that I'd agree that strlen is an example of the phenomenon you are talking about, but I also don't know that I could articulate why effectively. I do agree with your general point though. If you want an example t

I check into his twitch stream every now and again and I’d disagree. His next game is clearly his proving ground for the language and it is looking pretty far along these days. I expect his sokoban game and the language will be released pre

Does Windows not alias all 127.0.0.x to loopback by default? I needed multiple distinct IP addresses for loopback at my last job and while I had to manually alias them with ifconfig on MacOS, I found Fedora had them all aliased by default.

The struct composition example with Position + Size is really interesting. I can’t say I’ve seen something that works that way before.

Lots of discussion on the name changing portion of this, but I’m more perplexed by the github dev / support adding an SSH key to the account. Obviously they have that kind of access to the data / accounts hosted in their infra, bu

More than a few times I’ve wished that starting the first track of an album from that album’s page would automatically turn off shuffle if I had it on. Would be a nice setting to have at least.

Correct. At my last company I was outed by a colleague as being from Southern California when I visited our office in the bay area because I told them I took "the 280." Was kind of funny because I had never thought about it before

Great choice of detour. I lived in Yucca Valley off of 247 for a little while and still get opportunities to visit from time to time. Highly recommend checking out Joshua Tree if you get the chance.

Last I checked, one can't use the same SSH key for multiple github accounts, so if that is part of your workflow then you have to have different keys configured.

Do you mean the color scheme of the web page itself or the color scheme of the terminal in the screen captures? They're pretty close so maybe the distinction doesn't matter. The former seems more legible than most pages I see post
