I use scripting extensively in Clojure, both on the JVM and on Planck (JS). You have the choice of slower startup times but a ton of libraries to do anything you want, versus short start-up times but less libraries, using the same language.

At work we have a collection of (plush) Wombats of all sizes, and we have one major product named after them. They are really cute, and sometimes featured on the blog: https://www.wombatdialer.com/blog/

So they basically extended MD to do many of the things AsciiDoc does? Though I like the reveal.js editor that looks clean and simple enough. Nowadays the old online editor seems PowerPoint (and that's not a compliment).

Lots of ways. Usually externally, through a database. An Asterisk box processes and forwards calls - you can hook into a "master controller" that decides what is to be done.

You can scale Asterisk up quite a bit (we have customers with clusters of 50+ boxes) and every telecom uses it some way or the other.

But they were bleeding money, and just sold $30M total last year. Lots of people use Asterisk (it's basically everywhere - whatever you call - dentist, doctor, plumber... - they have the default Asterisk music-on-hold), but not all of

Agreed. For me, I plan in advance (a week) with a template; then I go buy all the stuff I need, and then I don't buy anything else. Nothing else at home or at work, so there is no "It's just one cookie" excuse. I lost 10

IIRC it used to be a fairly complete reimplementation of Clojure. I toyed with the idea of using it to cross-compile to Golang.

The hello world app has Clojure Schema and Orchestra validators built in, that's not very simple (though you don't see it).

Looked into it, but the big thing of my scripts is that they often use JDBC or http-kit, so cljs would not be as good.

The JVM already does that - it only loads things it needs. So you can have a 2M dependency and only use one static function of a single class in there, and it will only load that - but you have to distribute the whole JAR. With Jigsaw, thin

For Clojure, there is a complex set up of vars in the core namespaces - see e.g. https://dev.clojure.org/display/design/Improving+Clojure+Sta... - but GraalVM kills it. It's even worse for serverless!
