I built exactly what you describe at Flights With Friends. But the thing I learned is that group trips are not a democracy. Trips without a dictator who makes the decisions don't actually happen. Building tools for the dictator is hard

I had founded Flights With Friends for group travel planning shortly before this post. I read it when it came out but knew the point about travel being rare wasn't the cause of these product failures. The trouble with trip planning sof

I have the Ooni Koda 16. I’ll sear a steak on it occasionally in a cast iron pan. I heat the pan in the oven and then pull it out and sear while on a trivet. I find putting the pan in the oven while cooking isn’t needed. The pan will hit mo

I'm surprised this is just hitting HN now since it happened last month. But I look forward to being able to use credit cards with services like Sava. The last time I used a delivery service they could take cash or sketchy apps which li

You are right, I thought the Star was just the commercialized version of the Alto. The Star looks much more like the Xerox Docutech that I got to use a little bit in school.

It also reminds me that computer magazines were ~500 pages when I was a kid.

It's a very different experience than I expected. When I think of the Alto I think of a windowing operating system but this boots into a command line. I've tried out most of the available disks but haven't yet found one that

I distrust any website who prevents me from using the back button to leave their site. Browsers should prevent pushing to history if I haven’t clicked.

I like his point about `npm audit --production` being a good way to cut down the noise. But Github doesn't seem to take dev dependencies into account when sending security alerts. I get emails about non-issues from them all the time.

We had a Thinking Machine at the University of Minnesota. The person who was in charge of it learned to determine if the code running on it was efficient by watching the patterns of the LEDs.

Thank you for sharing this, I hope they find a California location soon. Because they are filter-feeders I would guess they are as helpful as oyster farms for cleaning the water. As long as they are contained that is.

I would like to see more than the summary. Is there a way to get access? I’m interested because I was on a low-carb high-fat diet where I ate 3 eggs a day – that was until I got a blood test that showed very high cholesterol. Now I’ve cut d

I had the exact same thought. There is no feeling like the frustration of a disappointing ending after being engrossed in a Neal Stephenson book. When they were paper books at least you could throw them across the room. Now that would break

So it looks like there is only one unbroken message left, the others have been broken between 2012-2017. The Enigma@Home project appears to be on hold while they look at different ways of solving. Am I understanding this correctly?

Does HN have to use the same Apple-baiting headline as The Washington Post? Lens Technology sells to all mobile phone makers. They are a massive public company with many customers... https://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/

When I read the article I was surprised that Frank Grimes wasn’t mentioned at all. He appeared in 1997 so after just 8 seasons the premise had collapsed.

Reeder did a really great job of dealing with this. I use Reeder 4 and got a one time modal on launch that Reeder 5 exists and what the potential reasons to upgrade would be.

We went from a Model S to a Model 3 and this is my only complaint. The steering wheel stalks are terrible on the 3. But are perfectly normal on the S. I prefer everything else about the 3.

There is a limit to the height you can tilt but you definitely can on the units I've used. I sear and baste in cast iron very often. If you lift it too high the stove will warn you that it does not detect a pan.

I like how he went into real detail. I had signed up to be a poll worker in Alameda County, California but they had more than enough volunteers so I didn't get a chance to get called up myself and see how things happen.

So many great points. I'm very happy to hear that someone is thinking of the UX. I only wished they worked on Siri. The only addition I can think of is during the wake word section. I'd like to remove the wake word requirement if
