I don't know why you are downvoted, but this is from experience: people who don't know what they're doing can do pretty much anything they don't want with a pc without realising it. Case in point: My grandma vs. Windows. Windows is a sore

First off, by all means, keep reading "clients from hell". If you're just starting out, it's a great way to figure out what the red flags are when dealing with prospects. If you've been going at it for a while, it's a massive stress release

I used Mendeley for my bibliography, which I can really recommend, and it exports to bibtex as well. I ended up rewriting most of my bibtex (and a custom bibliography-style file), but it was nice as a start, regardless.

I had the same with the person editing my thesis. Ended up exporting it to RTF, saving it as .doc in openoffice, and copying all changed back into latex by hand.

I think the same counts for the browser (which was firefox), the IM app ("pidgeon"? Pidgin, probably), the windows emulator (wine?) and so on and so forth.

If anything, accountability will go up. Future leaders will probably have their entire social graph up for looks on Facebook (or Facebook+n). It's not just about (millenials') intent, it's about a massive increase of access to information a

Here are a couple of good sites on design patterns for various components, with nice examples: http://www.welie.com/patterns/ http://developer.yahoo.com/ypatterns/ (obviously) http://ui-patterns.com/

I think points (and badges) are basically the crack cocaine of the 21th century. Reward every positive action with points and you're halfway there.

select-copy and middle-click-paste lacking are one of the biggest annoyances for me whenever I have to use windows or osx. Linux/Ubuntu/Gnome have a lot of small things like that that dramatically improve usability. It annoys me to no end w

So, the better way is just someone's pipedream? If you can't provide a suitable alternative, there's not much value there. I think there's more value in updating one social network and having a bunch of different networks pick up on that so

I'll come right out and say it: Most of the pleasure in my work comes from agreeing to do something I know I don't know, and then figuring it out. Now, what disconcerts me is that, given the same situation, if I say "sure, I can do that" pe
