I dunno how you authorize user actions. Especially complex cases that involve shared data. E.g. some user can see all materials, another can edit materials belonging to her group and also shared with him by others.

Good question! Also they point out that famous Uber article erroneously mentions write amplification caused by what they thought was N2O. IDK if write amplification is real or not. But if it is really O2N then there is no apparent reason fo

I don’t think anyone thinks that VPS is hard. Contrary, it seems universally acknowledged that VPS are way cheaper than cloud. Still people buy cloud for other reasons, good or bad. To me it is - Systems Manager: centralized access to serve

Hashing is a limited variant of ZKP which can answer one exact question. With ZKP you can also check if password has certain length, special characters, etc., without ever seen the password itself. Clear is not ZKP because Clear servers lea

Circuit returns a photo form your document as an output and the officer compares it to your face. The circuit won’t query DB but rather return your name or maybe a hash that can be used to query the database.

Instead of asking your id police office pass you a circuit. You present your ID to the circuit and pass results to the officer. The officer then verifies you are not a criminal without ever looking at your documents.

How about verification speed? The article mentions that avoiding trusted setup would result is sliver verification speed. Could it also increase proof size?

No, this is more like this. Here is my ZKP to verify you are older than 18. Please pass it your ID card and give me result. I’ll verify result and prove you are above 18. On top of that the proof output would contain your photo from the doc

It is not necessarily outsourcing fault but rather “people is a resource” mentality. This mentality leads to outsourcing to cheap locations because they are cheap. But I’ve seen in other context as well.

I hear about payment issues from Russian companies, they complain in interviews and blog posts in *.ru Also VTB CEO, a top-10 bank in Russia, recently complained in public that China closed their China branch. I think sanctions are working,

DynamoDb is not a distributed hash map, it is a distributed forest of B-Trees. And B-Trees are what PG uses for indices and MySQL for both tables and indices. You don’t demoralize with it, but rather you build and maintain table and index l

I don’t see how bare metal is order of magnitude cheaper. ECS + EC2 would be 2x maybe 3x more expensive than bare metal. Add auto-scaling and tooling (VPC, CF, terraform, Systems Manager, etc) and difference can be zero if not negative.

I would say the lesson is just use AWS which has outstanding support. Building backups yourself, going multi cloud or else just erase the benefit of CF. If you do this you can just run on a bare metal and save on cloud cost.

Why? 120 usd per 100 WCU per year, 30 usd per 100 RCU, does not sound expensive. 1 RCU reads up to 4Kb, to read 100 MBs you would need 100 000 RCU which would cost 30 000 usd/year, or 2500/year. Unless my math is off I don’t think

I’m not saying Stripe API is bad. But there are limits to how much differences you can hide behind a generic API while keeping it consistent. Off the top of my head I can think of a few cases I would qualify as a leaky abstraction. To start
