I wonder what would happen if some super-wealthy retired philanthropist (think Bill Gates, minus the MS monopoly tarnish) donated $1B to a promising Presidential candidate, with very few strings attached. Maybe we'll just end up with anothe

Your first point is fair enough. As for "anonymity is not the beginning and end of free speech", I don't think the comment you were responding to said anything to that effect. It only said that taking away anonymity would also take away fre

Many of the salt flats in the Western USA used to be great lakes as recently as a few thousand years ago. What is now "a dry salt water lake bed a hundred miles from drinkable water" could very well become abundant land in 10,000 years.

Although the article only talks about TFA schools, the problem of parents treating school like daycare is not limited to poor neighborhoods. Too many parents seem to think that they're somehow absolved from all parental responsibility as so

> Make parents responsible for their kids. Right now a lot of parents treat school as daycare for their kids, they don't care what happens there as long as the kids aren't at home. Absolutely agreed. There's very little that a school

Your actual argument depends on the sense of the word "take" that you use. (a) It is a well-established norm in any modern society that it's immoral to take (move) something without permission. (b) It is not well-established -- or at le

When you take $10 from your mom, your mom no longer has that $10. When you pay money to buy a magazine, the shop no longer has that magazine and you no longer have the money. Taking in the usual sense is moving . But pirates insist that th

Yes, the purpose of the article is to beat up on the dehumanizing culture of shame. That does not, however, imply that the Judeo-Christian culture of guilt is any better. Most likely, each is better in some areas and worse in other areas. B

You're right, real velociraptors were pretty small. I was talking about the puffed-up version that appears in the movies, which more closely resembles the deinonychus (160lb). A pack of those monsters would weigh more than a pack of wolves

Physical dimension is a very large factor in LCD panel pricing, and a 10" panel is only 10-15% the size of a 30" panel. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple could get hi-res 10" panels for cheap, especially since they'll be ordering millions of
