https://www.nasa.gov/centers/armstrong/news/FactSheets/FS-01... suggests that the SR-71 produces a relatively small sonic boom at high altitude.

The S&P 500 as a whole is trading at a P/E of 24. If there are any delusions about equity valuations they're not specific to Google.

Alphabet trades at a P/E of 27, hardly delusional.

You are misinterpreting the title. "The average age in the US is 38" doesn't mean everyone lives to be 38 on average.

How quickly do you need to be able to access this money in the future? If immediately, put it in high yield savings accounts. If you can tolerate a bit of a delay then a CD ladder or a ladder of treasuries is the way to go. If you're u

If you're already deeply in the Apple financial ecosystem perhaps it makes sense but if you're just chasing yield there are better options out there. SoFi will pay you 4.2%, and there are lesser known banks above that. Treasury mo

Yeah the particular one I was looking at was 912810SP4, a 30 year treasury with a 1.375% coupon. It was issued in August 2020 at a price of $99.24 for $100 of par, and it now trades just under $59.

Yes, they're trading well under par because they're very long duration bonds and interest rates have moved against them, not because of credit risk. What Levine points out in the linked piece is that per the terms of these CDSes i

This is an extremely relevant Matt Levine piece. He gives an example of long-dated treasuries trading at 83 cents on the dollar. Today long-dated treasuries issued during COVID are trading well into the 50ies.

Is Ariane 6 long-term infrastructure? Unless I missed something it's still a totally expendable launch system. That doesn't seem like it's viable in the long term.

The question here is if the buyer is in Fresno and Apple's warehouse is in say Tracy then which counties and cities should be able to apply their sale taxes to the transaction.

It really doesn't. The front in eastern Ukraine has been shelled into oblivion at this point and it hasn't made it easy for Russia to advance.

AFAIK, the Fed has agreed to lend banks cash on a short-term basis against their devalued (hardly worthless) bonds at par. If you have a source for the Fed agreeing to buy bonds I'd be very interested to read it, because AFAIK the Fe

It's known that the United States provided secret aid to the French nuclear weapons program (seemingly) without actually delivering France a bomb. Seems unlikely that they would have gone further with another country.

Were they guarded by authorization codes in 1961 when that incident happened? Kennedy's executive order to install PALs on nuclear weapons just in Europe was in 1962. The early days of nuclear weapons were the wild west.

If Schwab is paying 0.45% and putting the cash in the money market at 4.5% they're pocketing 4%. If their clients go buy the equivalent Schwab money market fund Schwab just gets a few basis points in management fees.

A "money market" account means the money is invested in extremely short term government or corporate bonds. SVB probably wasn't paying that 4.5%, they were just passing through what the market is paying for money market funds

It's worth remembering that not every "bailout" wipes out equity holders. Citigroup and AIG were both bailed out during the financial crisis and their equity survived (although with heavy losses).

In SVB's case I believe they are mostly mortgage backed securities (ironic, eh) rather than treasuries but yes. I wonder if this will spur any reflection on the accounting rules for HTM securities.
