To this day I wonder if consciousness is needed, or a hindrance for intelligence. That is that SF is all about, raising and play with these kind of questions. Can truly recommend Blindsight.

This so called equilibrium is created in nature by starvation or death by predators. Let's all go back to starvation and killing ourselves, for equilibrium.

This is one of those things where people say "oh I can't remember names" and what they mean is "I don't put any effort in remembering names". I know, because I've been the same. Now I repeat names in my mi

This might be paranoid. But I've established a protocol with some people in my life. Should someone with my voice ever contact them and ask for money (because emergency bla bla), nothing is to be done until a passphrase is mentioned. I

I think we've come to opposite conclusions. Fewer children increases unequality. Less children means, that inheritance does not spread across several people. To the contrary, it consolidates within an ever shrinking size of the populat

Thanks! That is great news to me. Your last paragraph might explain my former view. I wasn't aware of the not B2C part. Still, how difficult is it to bring GMO products to a European market like Germany? I'd imagine the hurdles ar

I struggle with this. Daydreaming is my instant Dopamin release system, always available, especially when I have to deal with something boring. But I'm getting better by improving work package size, removing barriers beforehand. That i

Side note: With Corona and the rise of biotechnology, I hope we'll see some excellent courses in natural / hard science in the near future. I'd love to switch into the SynBio industry, but lack the willingness for another uni

My guess is, that the moment his brain matches the perceived shape to the stored form of 8, it scrambles. That´s why he can feel the individual forms, like the circles inside the 8, just fine. Also why he can see the horizontal 8 as a mask.

I find this fascinating. Without a degree in neurology, I like to imagine what is roughly happening in a coder fashion. 1. RFS (the person with the condition) perceives a digit, 8 for instance. Touching or seeing doesn't matter (articl

On a tangential note: I've seen the upcoming rise of Syn Bio for quite some time now. But I've never figured out, how to participate / help its growth as a pure SWE. Job offers related to that field require a skill stack, tha

I've played Factorio in the past and am playing Satisfactorio right now. I generally don't code at home or have any side projects. Let's do some introspection as to why I prefer playing these games over coding at work: 1. Gam

That is not a proof for the question. You seem invested in your believes and either don't know or care about scientific evidence to back them up. There is nothing more to gain here, have a good day.

Correlation and causation. If you claim that lesser employee protection causes more innovation, proof it. So far, this is merely a believe.
