You are definitely right. Tonc has some interesting data (here: http://www.coranac.com/tonc/text/text.htm#tbl-txt-se2 ) about performance of operations with 16 bit vs 32 bit variables, but none of that information

Thanks! I think the feedback that I got last week on here was very good. Despite my initial desire to stick with the bitmap modes and try some 3Dish stuff, it really didn't make sense to try to learn new hardware by ignoring the most c

Hey, author of blog post here :) I know about the sprite system in abstract, but I haven't tinkered with it yet (nor do I know enough to start tinkering with it yet). I'm still trying to decide whether I want to go down that route

Although it might last a long time in it's own niche. Perforce is definitely still alive and kicking in the games industry. Git might eventually return to just being the VCS of choice for the linux kernel.

At least with the real time applications that I have experience with, this is often mitigated with custom memory allocators which pre-allocate large contiguous blocks before performance critical sections and then parcels out segments of tho

github gists are an ok solution for this if you don't really mind not having total control over color scheme.
