I’ve been contributing to LibreOffice since it early months and have been asked nicely if some of my patches can be used by AOO to which I agreed and they were used. To date no one ever from TDF or LibreOffice ever complained or threatened

All measurements in TeX must have a unit, even if the value is zero. Only counters take unitless numbers.

That is because release builds of Firefox does not support unicode-range, it just downloads all the fonts. But for unicode-range to be really supported, it must only download the fonts for ranges used in the page, as this feature is usually

I don’t see how this would work. When the browser renders an “ff” ligature, it does not do so by converting every “ff” in the input into U+FB00, as such it will never use this font unless the user input actually contains U+FB00 which is unl

Keyboard layout is independent of the locale used, and so are the directionality of the text which is a property of the characters themselves.

Look at the LibreOfficeKit API and the sample gtktiledviwer application, very easy to use (that the base of the Android and LibreOffice Online application), now all you need is writing the actual UI…

It is more like 20–50k in average, 100–200k for high end fonts from the biggest foundries. I single handedly made an Arabic typeface, 4 styles, ~5000 glyph each (that is perceived by many as a high quality font) over the course of 4 years a

AFAIK, the only requirement to comply with TeX license is to not name a the modified program TeX. This wouldn’t be the first proprietary version of TeX.

There is no shortage of TeX ↔ MathML conversion tools and solutions, one spectacularly prominent example is MathJaX ( http://www.mathjax.org/ ) which can take TeX input and output MathML (for browsers supporting it) or do its own rendering

The most clueless TeX related piece I have read since their previous one. For example, kpathsea is a library that TeX engines call, so no forking is done to “grab search paths from the Kpathsea system”. And the bright future for C implement

FWIW, OFL is an FSF-approved license http://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#SILOFL . Also it was not written by Adobe, Adobe here just picked the most widely used free software font license.

Yup, except that XSL-FO output is of shitty quality, especially if you are doing heavy math typesetting, and I know at least one pretty successful open access publisher doing this DocBook->TeX workflow for all their puplications.

DocBook is not really a TeX alternative, since it is merely a markup language and does no typesetting of its own. There are actually many DocBook workflows that do the final typesetting in TeX.

Nope, TeX's original (and only) goal was to help Knuth typesetting his books (TAOCP specifically) and he didn't think anyone but his secretary will use it.
