I subscribe to the theory that people who assume everyone's a potential child rapist are generalizing from a single example; either someone close to them, or themselves.

It's possible that the writer meant the more verbose nature of philosophy, as well as the explicit appeals to intuition in much of it, force this kind of "aha" moment more directly than math does. However, I'm willing to bet it was just sna

Those are all legitimate questions, but I think they all have extremely legitimate parallels in BP's gulf fiasco. For instance, who pays Japanese for the loss of contaminated property? I don't know, but the loss of livelihood for thousands

Also, there's a ton of downloads coming from a point in Northeast Siberia where, as far as I can tell on Google Maps, there isn't so much as a log cabin. Mapping anomaly, or giant, secret military base?

Complaining about mainstream media on mainstream media would be fine. Complaining about mainstream media on alternate media pollutes the alternate media with the problems of the mainstream.

I see a fairly natural superpower line with welding and mechanical engineering (alongside machining or some rapid prototyping ability) on one side, and bricklaying, ditch digging, etc. on the other side. Bricklayers and ditch diggers don't

Carpentry is a super power. Just about every girlfriend I've had has been very turned on by guys who can build things with their hands; my brother made a (successful) engagement ring out of 5 different kinds of Amazonian hardwoods that l

I'm sure the NSA is listening to Freenet, but it doesn't matter. That's the advantage of Freenet. Among the disadvantages of Freenet are that it's incredibly slow, difficult to find content on, and cannot access content on the regular inte

I agree. I finished "The Non-Designer's Design Book," which seems to be universally regarded as the sine qua non of beginning design; then immediately applied my new skills to a redesign of my dad's 1998-frontpage-website. Long story short
