Yes, and? people are free not to be concerned if they don't think it's a problem. They're free to say they're not concerned. They're free to suggest others shouldn't be concerned. They're free to phrase th

So like what? There's clearly a difference. The new thing is worse, and stacks with the already bad stuff. So like... fiasco.

Or delegate that stuff and become a "sellout". Just don't get taken advantage of. Oh, and have actual talent. Or don't, doesn't really matter, if the salesperson has some of their own.

I spoke in absolutes. Guess I'll say I've never observed it happening in anyone after maybe late teens. Some learn to keep quiet about whatever they're bought into, because they've learned it will scare a lot of people o

Sounds like he just read history, noticed repeating patterns, and believed his own eyes. It sucks that makes him some kind of special person, instead of "people" just being the kind of thing that commonly does stuff like that.

That's exactly what it was, I misremembered. But a few months ago, I gave 11 a shot on my gaming PC Windows partition, because 10 had reached end of life, and Minecraft refused to work on it at all, Minecraft then required the store lo

The people for whom this stuff isn't glaringly obvious, relatively early in life, will never get it. Except, maybe, specific instances that directly affect them in a bad way. Switch "brands" and they'll be fooled again.

I stopped saying stuff like this out loud because it usually turns into "I know you don't like when... but, [does thing anyway]" and now it's 10 times more annoying.

I love learning that stuff too, until I learn what it takes to maintain it. At least internet facing stuff. I fully gave up on email a decade ago. That alone crushed all my excitement for the general idea. I have a local media server, but i

One thing I'm hoping will come out of this is the retiring of coders that always turn what should be a basic CRUD app (just about everything) into some novelty project trying to pre-solve every possible concern that could ever come up,

Any would-be switchers, note these are 2 very different things. Self-Hosting sucks, period. For a million reasons that have nothing to do with the OS :) Trying both at once is going to be exponentially more painful than doing either alone.

Everyone is talking about it like a problem that need correcting. Why? Less people seems like it could be better for everyone and everything already here, assuming "great social systems" are in place.

Who cares? Nobody is concerned about that. They're concerned no one will be able to fix stuff when it goes wrong, or there will be no one to blame for really bad problems. Especially when the problem is repeating at 50 petaflops per se

No, we can't. Hence Git. Use it the right way, or prepare for the fallout. Anyone looking for a good way to prepare for that, I suggest Git.

That's on every individual that decided to "give it" to Microsoft. Git was made precisely to make this problem go away.

If someone invokes TTC against a TTC honestly, they're asking the speaker to think about what they just said. The opposite of a terminating thought. If that same person just wants someone to shut up, they'll say "shut up"
