I was OBSESSED with the first image of the toroidal station as a kid. Haven’t seen it in so long and this instantly made me feel like I was 8 years old again.

Exactly, GDP per capita is a better metric when talking about what an economic situation feels like on the ground. Absolute GDP is a very “let’s rank countries by economic power” metric.

I think the joke is that a decentralized database doesn’t really solve any of the hard parts of knowing who owns what more that a sql database at the county records office. Establishing the real world legal realities of what those db record

Tesla and Waymo/Cruise are playing entirely different games. Tesla is trying to make a full level 5 using only vision. Waymo and Cruise are going to level 4 in HD mapped service areas using every possible sensor they can fit onto a car

I once fell off my bike and smashed my nose pretty badly. To this day, when I trip and lose my balance for a second, I feel a shooting pain in my nose. It’s like it’s ready to start hurting again before anything touches it.

You can invest in companies that make money though. There are lots of them chugging along just fine and providing returns, dividends even. The high flying meme stocks get majority of the attention, but they’re not the majority of the marke

Typescript is for big code bases and big teams. The smaller your project, the more pointless typescript will feel. Working alone on a small project, it’s a LOT of extra stuff on the screen to avoid a very specific kind of bug.

Ah, yes that’s more what I meant to say. We’ll get to a place where masks aren’t required anywhere, but we may never return to a world where masks are a weird or unusual sight.

Masks became a regular fixture in Asia after original SARS. Not by regulation, but they just became an ordinary item used by people to avoid getting sick or avoid getting others sick.

It sounds like you’ve had some really rough experiences. What you’ve described is absolutely not universal though. I’ve accumulated and kept very close friends though a rollercoaster of financial conditions across decades.

Something started in the 70s and I’ve never seen a good explanation of what it was. But you can see in the stats that obesity hit an inflection point in the mid-1970s, started going up and has never looked back. Now we’re at 80% overweight
