I would ask why 80 just happens to be the best lifespan for humans. If we’re optimizing for things you listed, imagine how much more child-inspired joy and new idea throughput we could get if we had kids at 18 and died at 40? I’m still unc

I have been in love with the Morgantown PRT for awhile now. How can you not love a still-running proof-of-concept world's fair style vision of futuristic transportation in a college town in West Virginia.

People will be arguing that "true self driving is impossible" for decades after we've all been already happily riding around in cars without steering wheels. Level 4 self-driving with remote assistance will allow "driver

Tokyo absolutely took advantage of that clean slate, but San Francisco's issues don't seem to be related to physical infrastructure.

Absolutely. But it really feels like kicking the can down the road to try to deal with severe inequality just by decriminalizing theft. There has to be a better long-term solution.

Sounds like NYC now as well. All the hard parts without the positive things that made living there worth it.

Addiction is a progressive narrowing of what brings you pleasure. Addicts don’t choose their addiction over happiness, they lose the ability for other things to bring them happiness through desensitization.

Unilever's marketing team rightly recognizes this as a moment when temporarily boycotting running facebook ads gains them more attention and good will for free than their ads that were previously running on facebook did for pay.

It’s not just about the percentage of false positives, it’s about how much easier it is to generate false positives. Human face-matching accuracy is worse than software in many scenarios (“is this the man that robbed you?”) but it requires

It’s really a question of rate of spread v. vaccine availability. If a vaccine really does become available in early 2021 then there is value in slowing the rate.

The head-scratcher for me is that people would rather battle this out with Apple so they can release compiled binary apps for projects that simply display text and images and buttons instead of just using the web for free. It's only th

In my experience, “everyone” eventually leaves NYC. After 12 years, I have only one friend left from when I moved here. The average tour of duty in NYC is 5-6 years. Covid accelerated that timeline for many people, but they would have left
